OK so you use an interrupted light schedule to stress them to turn?
What's the efficacy rate? Does it work on some more than others? To say, is it more effective on some strains than others?
It is my understanding, from what I've read, true hermaphroditism will produce male and female seeds. I assume this method does not produce true hermaphroditism and the plants remain chromosomally female?
I use the natural tendancy for a plant to go hermie from a screwed up light cycle to my advantage
If you have light leak or your dark period interrupted by light your plants will go hermie. Any seeds produced by plants pollenated by these hermied plants will be female (I think scientifically it's called the Mendolian genetic model or something to that effect). What is happening is the pistil of the plant gets covered in pollen that has 2 X chromosomes, essentially making the resulting seed female due to it being created out of only female chromosomes (the pistil on the female plant is 2 X also)
The only issue with making female seeds, regardless of the method used, is that a percentage of them wil be more susceptible to going hermie on a grower. However, any experienced grower will know how to do a pheno hunt when searching for momsout of the seeds and take precautions to weed out the hermies from their hunt
Some of my strains have a quicker response to the light stress than others but it's pretty much a guarantee that they will start spunking within 3 or 4 weeks of putting them under light stress
I've got the following strains growing at the moment:
Cinderella 99 - Brothers Grimm (original)
California Hash Plant - Dinafem
CBD Medihaze - CBD Crew
Orange Bud - Dutch
CB Dream - Crop King
Pinapple Hash Plant - one of my crosses created out of a Training Pineapples that hermied and spunked on a California Hash Plant (Dinafem)
Training Pinapples - one of my crosses created out of an accident from a Barny's Farm Pinapple Express auto going hermie and spunking over a Training Day from DNA ... Some of the best smoke I have, super fire
Out of these the Training Pineapples and the Pinapple Hash Plant are the quickest to show balls when I do a seed run (I think this is due to the Barny's Farm auto). The CB Dream is a new strain for me and I am just starting the pheno hunt so won't know it's tendancies until I finish the hunt and go to add the seeds to my seed bank
I've been collecting genetics for the past 4 or 5 years now and have around 20 different strains and crosses ... even have 8 strains that my buddy brought back from the blue mountains in Jamaica, only popped one so far and damn son, he did me a solid - I made some femmed seeds after the first taste of that herb, I call it Jamaican Grapes
Some people collect cars, some coins and others sports cards ... I collect cannabis strains
Anyways, I digress ... I hope this helps answer your questions and shows anyone reading how easy it is to plant a seed and watch it grow
