Do we need more information on seed packs?

Most seed pack descriptions state the name of the genetics and maybe some information like flower time (56-63 days) and yield (medium) but do not count on much more than that. In my mind a breeder should know the frequency in which the strain marketed to the consumer will show up, the smell ranges and tastes of cured flowers. Some people may not like Insane Seed Posse but they are one of the best when it comes to descriptions. For example:

Chem D Bx3
(Chemdawg D x (Chem 91 x pre-Invasion Afghan)
BX 'd to clones of the original mother (repeatedly) .

Indoor
Background: Around 1994, the ISP decided to put a Chem 91 in seed form. The reasons being, " clones only " can lose vigour (wane) over time, unless optimal conditions can be maintained; and we wanted her in seed form. So, we hit a Chem 91 (clone only mother) with a pre-invasion Afghan father (same source as A-Dawg), to create a two sexed line.

From 94 until 99, we maintained clones of the original mother, and kept selecting multiple males from the (Chem 91 x pre-Invasion Afghan offspring), using them to hit clones of the original mother, to tighten up all Chem 91 traits.

All offspring were tested, and only the, best of the best, were used to move the project forward. Around 2003, a father from that refined Chem 91 line, was used to hit a Chem D (clone only) mother we had obtained. Those were grown out, and multiple fathers from that cross, were used to hit clones of the original Chem D (clone only) mom. All offspring were tested, and only the best fathers were used on the Chem D (clone only) mother.

We went back to the original mother, three times, to tighten up all Chem D traits. That being said, Chem D BX3 can only be described as " One Bad Ass Strain". It's resin covered buds, have the punch to send seasoned stoners into the stratosphere. Very mind expanding, a Stellar "Head" High, with couch locking abilities as well.

It gets one thinking outside the box, Inspires Creativity, and Peaceful Thoughts. However, if over toked, it can totally freak out newbie smokers, so be warned, and avoid the Emergency Room visit.

Potency is a solid 8.5 out of 10
High Type: Creative, Soaring, Medicinal, and Debilitating if over toked.
Resin Profile: High Resin Production
Stretch: 1/2 to 1 times the veg height.
Odour Description: Sweet Earthy Funk, Skunky, with hints of Lemon & Pepper
Flavor Description: Sweet Earthy Funk, with hints of Lemon on the inhale, and sometimes hints of Pepper on the exhale.

Veg time: 40 to 45 days (min) 60 days veg is Best. Flowering time 56 to 70 days / 56 - 63 days gives more of an up head high / 63 - 70 days results in a stoned / couch lock high. The shift is quite dramatic / shocking in terms of effect. So, be sure to harvest at different windows to enjoy all this lady has to offer.

The best yields are obtained with a 60 day veg, and 70 day flowering period.

Yield: depends on growers skills. She's sensitive to temps above 82 F, and high humidity (over 60 % in flowering). She feeds medium to heavy, depending on the grow medium (CEC) rating. She can be grown in soil, sunshine mix, coco and hydro.

Yields 1 ounce minimum per gallon of grow medium (soil, sunshine mix, or coco), upwards to 2 ounces per gallon of grow medium (dialled in) / in Hydro 1 ounce per foot of vertical growth(min), upwards of 2.25 ounces per foot of vertical growth (dialled in).

Phenotypes (2)
Pheno # 1: is identical to the clone only mom, in branching, bud structure, smell, taste and potency. This pheno shows up 80 % of the time.
Pheno # 2: is slightly less branchy, but has identical bud structure, smell, taste, and potency. This pheno yields slightly less, than pheno one, and smells more skunky. This pheno shows up only 20% of the time.
Do you see how detailed they are? This tells me they know their plants and this gives me confidence in them. I have a sneaking suspicion most breeders aren't running their lines in such a way that they can give this much detail. Maybe I am wrong. Would you guys like to see this kind of info on your seed packs?

P.S. I realize this is almost impossible to do with F2's or S1's. This is strictly for those strains that are represented as a pure strain say Tangie or Sour Diesel etc.

Thanks for reading :)

The new thing is IG info. Most of the breeders now is posting there so I guess they don't feel like they need to put all that on there. Some are cool and answer questions when asked.

Instagram beats the shit out of me. Can't seem to find places or stay where I think I am. Like my brain lacks whatever is needed to even get around there and so much seemingly useless stuff about people and things I don't know or want to know. I keep trying but always find myself just sayin' "fuck this shit" and looking elsewhere.

I think a good base for a lot of seed and even dispensaries, as far as whole website goes, but this also answers OPs question, is BC bud depot. I like most of their seed details. I, personally, would also like to see a range of how tall the plant gets. THC, CBD and other related percents, just to name a few things. Also things like effects smoking and eating, its medicinal benefits, etc. A lot to put on a page but if a seeband/dispensary can be the "amazon" of weed, which is possible in still such a young industry.......the possibilities start to add up lets just say.

IMO, a lot of recreational and medicinal dispensaries and seedbanks have shitty websites. There are exceptions of course.

I realize you are talking about seedpacks, but it becomes a moot issue if your website is stellar. More traffic to website=more possibilities.

What makes cannabis so great is that it does not matter what is written on the seed pack. You may, and probably will get something different, and it may be better than what you expected. in this day and age, what is written on the pack is there to get you to buy the seeds....you're not getting exactly what is written, that's a fact.

The same could be said for seedbanks as many have virtually no info on lineage, or maybe flower time or maybe what to expect in size or particular nutrient habits.
Yep! Selling $200 packs with a description of "Your momma's OG". No idea what its lineage which calls into question the investment viability.

Yeah I might have said seed packs but I really meant in general. These days its like you have to be "in the know" to know what to buy. That's disheartening to new people.

I have to disagree here. If I am a newbie and all the people around me talk about how great "Girl Scout Cookies" are and I find a pack labeled "Girls Scout Cookie" then I should be able to find that plant in a pack of seeds. Otherwise it's a bit of bait and switch, no?

I'm content if they mention the strain lineage and the amount of seeds included per pack, any more info than that seems to be a bonus. It's nice to know some of the history of the strain and how it was worked but if those details the breeder chose not to share than so be it

Im not trying to bash you or anything.....but IMO, this mentality is why the powers to be (corruption aside) do not take MMJ as seriously as they should even though weed is proven to be medicinally beneficial.

Coming across professionally, which is NOT the norm in the MMJ market, could do wonders for the movement. You think traditional medicinal creationists "didnt feel like releasing those details?" All im saying is being professional or helping the industry become more professional as a whole adds to legitimacy. IMO, being as detailed as possible about what some use as medicine helps the whole industry out on both sides.

I don't disagree, I'm big on some form of photo/video documentation. I'd expect to see more grow journal type documentation coming from companies in the future also. Green House Seed Company had the right idea with their video series, but they only did it for a few strains and the video res. could be much better.

Psh like 90% of seeds people buy are F1 hybrids. Good luck describing them.
The people putting out the hybrid very well could. If you are creating something you SHOULD be knowing that plant inside and out, IMO.

If am ever at a point where i can create my own strain, further down the line considering im just a personal grower, and I want to try and push it to market because i think its that good. When I contact a seedbank I am going to give them everything I would expect to see on a website when I am buying a seed. This all goes back to my last post about professionalism.

You think Big tobacco is successful because all they can do is bring in a lot of tax money? Yes, it is part of it but everyone knows weed=money. Being professional = getting to a point where you can get things passed by gov't. And IDGAF what any "fight the power" type person has to say, you have to play their game until....you are in a position to where you dont have to.

ETA: The MOB is a prime example of people who "acted" professional and did things way worse than growing pot. Im advocating for the same thing (but actually BE professional), but in a legal, long-lasting way.

Always exceptions too, obviously.

Seed descriptions are there for newbs. That was kinda my point. Dynasty is the best i have run as far as worked lines, but this is hardly being done anymore. It's all about getting that new new ASAP, so most only care about the lineage. As someone else said, most are f1's or even f2's with even more variation.

F1 hybreeds is what it is in the main. That is what we buy for vigor and to combine desirable traits, very few IBLs or landrace strains out there. Just check Seedfinder. F1s are what growers expect, f2s are what lesser breeders do. IBLs can lack vigor and land races can be a challange to say the least. Many crops like tomatoes etc are hybrids

Instagram sucks for many reasons. If breeders are such poor businessmen that they can't be arsed to provide real information in a place where consumers can find it then they deserve to go out of business. There's a lot more competition now and just having good cuts isn't enough any more.

Don't support lazy asshole breeders. Avoid the ones that don't provide any pictures or descriptions. Especially avoid the ones that get into stupid beefs on Instagram or have ever referred to another breeder as a "fuckboy." They're usually the ones charging $200 for a pack of regular chucks with no pics or descriptions.

Yes, it's annoying. Even for very reputable breeders they don't often provide any info other the strain name and parentage. I guess if you are an experienced grower and already familiar with the strains you would know what to expect of a cross between trump-hole and kushner-breath. But for those of us new to the scene, it's just jaw flappin.

Instagram isn't the answer. It's barely a photo sharing site and finding actual information is a needle in a haystack hunt.

So yes, breeders, at least give us *basic* info, like sative/indiica %'s and a lab test or 2. Very helpful would be growers notes for the dominant pheno's. You have testers. You grow them yourselves. We all know you like to promote your products on social media and forum's. Even a youtube grow/strain review would help.

But it would seem the newer breeders are the worst. They don't provide info and won't answer questions. But they are always out there promoting. I have seed packs I've won on giveaways I can't get even skeletal information on. I'm not going to waste time popping seeds I don't know anything about, let alone buy them. I'll gift them to someone in need and hopefully it won't waste their time.

Or I'll plant them in the back part of a neighbors property I don't like. Let them explain why they 25 plants growing...... ;) j/k...
