I'm just going to start fresh
Purchasing a good soil for a beginner is very important. Many choices out there. Opinions vary, I recommend fox farm soils to new growers for a couple of reasons and it will be available to you in CA. They have a good soil to start seedlings called Light Warrior. Don't start seedlings in their other soils, they are not as good for seedlings. One bag of light warrior will last a long time.A good style of growing is to start the seedling in something like Light warrior, then 5- 7 days after it peeks from the soil move it into a larger container with something like fox farm ocean forest. If you use ffof it needs no fertilizer for at least 30 days. Another advantage is if you run into problems, there are a lot of people here who have experience successfully growing with it, especially indoors.
I like keeping plants alive, if that plant is to be in a container, inside or outside, a 2 or 3 gallon pot would be a better size pot for it to be able to water it evenly.

2 to 3 gallon pot :) and good soil :) thanks for the help man :) I've been wanting to grow and make it to harvest since forever. I can't grow indoors due to my 1 year old daughter. I don't want CPS fucking shit up. So I need to keep it outdoors :)

Just to be clear, outside I would keep that little plant in a 2-3 gallon just to keep it alive. To get to harvest with a plant outside you will likely need a bigger pot, not sure the size for your situation, I grow weed indoors, An outdoor MJ plant flowering to harvest outside may need 5-10 gallons depending on size. BTW hurry up if you start new plants, I think MJ will start flowering outside in CA in about 4 or 5 weeks. Perfect time to start now. If they are small and healthy they will be easier to care for than big plants. Good Luck!

Me thinking the 20 gallon pot would help it grow :) I'm so silly :) I'm honestly thinking about starting fresh, this plant has been sprouted since the beginning of April. Do you really think I could bring it back? Would I even get a good harvest from it? Possibly not :(
U may well be suprised

I only did 1 plant above ground this year. And 4 in holes. Started from clone in June move from 1 gal to 3 gal to 7gal. If I would've vegged longer I would've gone bigger. This one should start stretching this week or next.20170728_142905.jpg
The in ground ones did a lot better20170716_123204.jpg

That's what I taught too. I've got tons of seeds. I'll just start over :) thanks man :)
:-P yeah I agree with you. I never purchased any soil at the store:) I should invest in that. And the strain I'm trying to grow is a hybrid called Diablo cookies so maybe the genetics aren't too easy to work with. And then me being new to growing doesn't help :) but I'll get there one day hopefully
Might I ask which seeds? If you're really a beginner you should start with some plants that are great for newbies (eg. they can easily reccover from or withstand newbie mistakes). I also recommend doing the same thing I'm doing which is: reading. Read a lot before you start! It's better to know too much than too little! Trust me!
