Cobs and wilting.

Any cob growers experiencing wilt?

I have my cobs 30" above my month old plants. About 8 hours in to the 18 hour light cycle they begin to wilt. By the time the lights go off they look very sad.

I understand this is a defence mechanism. In harsh light conditions the stomata will close and the plant takes a break from transpiration / photosynthesis and the plant stops uptake. Which causes the wilt.

Anybody else experience this?

And... does a root zone (in promix) that is too warm cause wilting?

Month old from seed or clone? How big are they?

And how hard are you running your cobs?

I run 50 and 75 watt cobs at about 18 inches from the tops of my plants with no problems. It could be something else.

About 3 week old from seed. 8 to 10" tall. 75w Cobs are dimmed to 3/4 power running at 50% efficiency, i think.....

In 1 gal pots right now. Maybe the promix is warming up to much at 83f for 18 hours?

Are you experiencing cal mag issues ?

My plants in coco were doing this. It got better once I started feeding more frequently and having run off. My plants do look like they go to sleep early still, maybe like 2-3 hours left in the light cycle.

I did last run. I supplement now with the botani are cal mag. So far so good on that.
Dialling in on the cobs has been a bit of headache for me. Starting my 3rd run with them now...

My opinion would Be to run them at 80-90% at 30in.

I think it's better to start at high power at a safe distance and adjust accordingly.

What are your specs ?

If the roots are not very strong, some plants will wilt when you put them under the LEDs, I have a large enclosed 55gal tank I use for clones, but when a transplant starts to wilt I just put it pot and all in the tank for a day or two. Next time add your new plants 2 or 3 hours before lights off, so they can get used to it a bit without going into overdrive. Make sure to water new transplants too.

If you used cheap coco without buffering with calmag, you WILL see problems as your coco is stuffed with Na and K at excessive levels.

I don't believe in mixed or bought soil. Proper soil is grown, the stuff in the bag has the potential to turn into good soil with some time. But it doesn't start out good.

Another post where you exhibit the extent of your growing knowledge.....soil too warm, wtf?
Well... instead of insulting me...why dont you splain why my plants are are all perky at lights on and then droop steadily through the light cycle when in small pots?

I took soil temps throuh the light cycle and found there was an apparent correlation between droop and rising spoil temp. That might be coincidence so tell me what am i missing.

And tell me that 77 to 78f is a good root temp. Please.

That's not the case for you though.
Your plants could be root, bound and ready to be put into flower.

Or if your suffering from cal or mag issues I've noticed that sometimes excess cal or mag can lock out phosphorus which in turn causes weak stems and usually they wilt towards end of light cycle.

But if you feel like none of,these are your issue then maybe your ladies just get ready for lights out.

This has been suggested....cal mag probs interfereing with phosphorous uptake.

I also read this could be a prob from over watering, which i have been prone to for seedlings.

Either way it goes back to phosphorous....

Cut the ppms back, maybe light flush with half strength nutes then let the pots get lighter after the flush.

I was experiencing this wilting issue with purple stems, turns out I was over fertilizing with way more than needed cal mag, did that flush and ladies are turning back around and stay perked up all through out the light cycle

I could be guilty of over fert in this situation too.

Ran into cal mag def probs on my first two cob runs.. so might be over compensating...
