I have 4x7 lowtemp plates on my 20ton press
I still use his 3x6 220 micron bags for flower. 20G's of broken up flower. Almost no blowout.
When I'm squishing bubble/kief i still like korlor420 all silk bags. The 2x4.5" 37micron bags i do 10 g's at a time. ZERO blowout.
Korlor has bigger bags out now. Next time i order for the squishing of bubble is going to be with different size bags that are out now.

I staple the bags closed. Works quite well actually.

I stuff shit loads of the 3x6 bags first. Then I pre press them with no heat to 5tons.
Makes squishing them all much quicker.
After having all the bags full of broken up flower pre pressed, i can squish a lb in no time.

Finally some progress on my 6 ton press. Harbor Freight had a 25% off coupon $64.73 w/tax today so I pulled the trigger and bought the press. Still waiting for my heat cartridges to get here from China. The ram head I thought was designed to press fit on the shaft fit tight but slipped on and off. I used some foil to shim it on tight. Assembly was not too hard and all parts were accounted for.

Got the heaters today, drilled the holes and mounted the tension springs. It is just way too hot out there in the garage to keep working perhaps tomorrow morning I will finish the build. The tension springs seem to work as I had planned. They hold the top plate up with strength to spare.

Good job. I feel you need more support for the plates themselves. If that top unit is only held in place by springs you will get " wobble " I can't see what under the bottom plate but it needs to be laying flat. And best if it's supported everywhere to achieve the best results. i know from experience of a unit that was not supported correctly. Why not add another set of aluminum slabs and a insulator in between? The bar stock is cheap as you've

The springs only lift the plate up. The leather is the insulator (the bottom one still needs to be cut to fit). Under the silicone pad (there to catch any drips) are the cast iron plates. I have put full pressure on the plates with no wobble - all nice and flush. Hope to be squishing tomorrow. Only thing I regret is the cheap Rex C-100 PIDs are Celcius only. I think in Fahrenheit! I guess this old dog needs to learn some new tricks at least between 85°C and ~115°C.

Ok..It's hard for me to tell from only seeing the pics. The wobble would occur if the sac of material wasn't centered perfectly under the top plate. But you know best as your there messing with it. The more support the better.
I also prefer Fahrenheit even though were are in Celsius here in Canada. More range to choose from. I grew up with Fahrenheit but then we switched when I was an older kid.
There is a material that is used for insulating between heated surfaces. It sort of looks like Masonite. I'm not sure what it's called or where to get it. You can squash the hell out of it. That would be a better choice to leather.
Someone here may know the stuff I mean. It seems like a cross between counter top laminate and plywood.

Squish squish......... I did my first presses and this 6 ton press does a good job. Maybe not so much the pressor. I need to learn how to handle this sticky goo! Can you say Keystone Cops.......... It was stuck to my fingers then it stuck to everything I touched. I thought it was not supposed to stick to silicone? Well I assure you it does. I am definitely on the uphill side of this learning curve. The leather works fine as the shaft did not get hot in a 2 hour session. No problems with wobble or misalignment so far.
First observations: I need to put a grip on the jack handle. The diameter of the handle is too small. The press needs about 15 minutes to stabilize the temperature of the plates when first turned on. I need to learn how to fold the parchment and load the plates to best contain the rosin.
I ran 14 - 1g test runs with two strains and various temps and press times. A lot more testing needs to be done with volume etc.....

I got about 17% return not counting what I lost by poor handling techniques. I need to research handling tips.
All in all I am very happy with this DIY press.

Well I only squeeze onto parchment...not silicone. Cool the pad off in the freezer for a minute or so and it will un-stick easier.
I saved bags from my old press and could not believe what I got out of them from my new press. A lot. Totally worth saving. I had suspected i was not getting all from them even though i did seem toget a good return on the first runs....so. Power and heat are where it's at and technique. I like the lower temps best and am still messing around with that aspect. Trouble is i can't smoke it all....I'm full up with a ton of this stuff now. Nice problem to have anyway.

You need two of those SSRs in the box!Check It Out Received My Rex-C's,SSR's And Their Home Today. It's Going To Be A Tight Fit But I Think I Can Pull It Off
So here is a bonus value; I slid the bottom plate out a couple of inches and used it as a precise hot plate to decarb some rosin & cocoa butter to make a chocolate bar
. I also plan to use it to mix rosin & EJmix to vape on the go
