Forbidden Poppies in Forbidden city

Hey RIU Family!
So, I've realized sometime ago that I had a 'Green Thumb' so to speak n no matter what it is, if it can grow, I usually am able to keep it alive n well. So, recently I've found myself ordering poppy seeds n wanted to give it a go. Upon reading I've learned that they can pretty much grow in any type of soil of any condition. I successfully get them to sprout, but a week after, they die off. Has anyone Grow any poppies with any success? If so, what type of care were they given from young? All info would be appreciated n I tr

@Tankado78 sounds like your having damping off problems. Poppy sprouts are very delicate So using a spray bottle is a good way to water without them getting damaged.. Soil should be moist, not soaked, for a week after they sprout
At which point it's good to let them harden off by giving less water. Once they are in the cabbage stage give them water when they need it/ not soaking.

Oh yeah, thinning out the sprouts should be done while they are little.. If they are to crowded they can bolt and flower prematurely.

I saw one or two of my poppy seeds germinated. I think. there are so many weeds, and I am not touching the weeds, they are there to make the soil better after years of keeping the beds clean.
It is starting to warm slightly now, I might broadcast some more seed tomorrow, they predict a little rain.

Thankx for the much needed info! I've made a couple of adjustments, mainly to give it a more sandy texture. I'm using a few long boxed beds since I'm indoors n hoping that'll work. @farmerfischer, once I get them to sprout again, I will definitely be more careful with the watering, cause their small like blades of grass! I hope I can keep coming to you all for info. I truly appreciate all the help so far. @ANC, I hope those are poppies germinated. Definitely would stick around for the long haul. Got my fingers crossed n hoping I get some more germinated myself.

Hey All!
I just wanted to give an update on how things are going. So, I've learned that my soil mixture was off n the possibilities of over watering. I also realized that the way I seeded my trays could've been off as well, since all I did was place a few in a lil round pot in anticipation of the beginning size. Since then I've added more sand to my mix n I sowed the seeds gently into the tray or bed. I decided to let Mother Nature have a go at it, since I had the 1st pot inside a grow tent. It's been a lil damp where I live for the past few days or since the last time it rained n hasn't dried the soil out yet, therefore I haven't even bothered with them. I happen to take a peek this am n low n behold, I got some lil sprout action going on! I'm pretty sure that it's the poppies that have germinated, since my soil hasn't had anything in them since last yr when I was growing some bud. Still growing bud in my Forbidden City as well as trying my hand in shrooms also.(Never knew the shroom process was so damn serious with sterilization!) I've been learning all different types of stuff when it comes to growing anything n was truly blown away by learning how much bacterial n fungal feedings played a part in the whole grand scheme of things. Anyways, I don't wanna bore or talk a hole in y'all heads. What's exciting to me you guys n gals probably learned or been doing for yrs. I'm just hyped being a NOOB! Lol. Got a couple of pics of the sprouts. Btw, the 3rd tray that I have n left indoors hasn't budged, but it looks as if the soil completely dried out b4 the lil guys can take root. Just wanted to keep everyone updated n plz, share your experiences n grows as well... Definitely would love to hear about any n all progress. Have a awesome day n keep growing pplz! Seems like it's gonna be left to US to heal n save this world!

Sorry I haven't replied sooner, but I've been a lil under the weather n I'm trying to do a few different grows at the same time. I got cannabis going, poppies going, n I'm trying my hand at mushrooms as well! So, you wanted to know of a site to order from? Well, when it comes to exotic seeds n plants, I have 2 sites that I truly trust n they haven't failed me yet. The 1st is BouncingBear(I believe if you type that in, they'll direct you to right spot. Just read to find if it's the right source) n the 2nd site I had found because bouncing bear was sold out of the specific poppy seeds that I was in search of. The 2nd site is EdenBrothers. This company has just about every n any seed that you can think of! This is where I ended up purchasing my poppies from. This is my 1st time attempting to grow poppies, so I'm definitely a NOOB all the way around. If you back log, read all the msgs n there's plenty of great info in the lil amount of post that have been put up. As far as pics, I have a couple to show where I'm at right now. The poppies that I had outside have been rummaged thru by the neighborhood stray cats, possums, or even raccoons. Good thing I had made 3 trays n kept 1 of my trays inside my biggest grow tent. This is where my pics come from, cause I honestly gave up on the ones outside due to unwanted pest, n not 2 mention, the weather is starting to change. I hope with the 2 sites I've provided that you find yourself growing the most beautiful flowers that poppies have to offer! Good luck with your Grow n plz, keep a dude posted!

I'm not sure how long it's been, but I haven't updated my status/progress in a while n if ya look at the pics above, that's where I'm at, at the moment. So, of course, you guys/gals know that I have a question! Lol.. I was curious, at this particular stage of the poppies life, how should I proceed? Do I take n start thinning out the lil ones n eliminate the weak grouping? Or do I leave or keep the grouping that is going on in the pics? Like I said previously, I'm a complete NOOB to growing poppies n all the advice,help, info that you guys/gals can provide would be very much appreciated! I have about 3 different strains, but I truly don't remember which one are the ones in the pic. I have a pack of hens n chicks that I haven't opened, the Giant, n another one that I can't remember right now. Lol. They belong to the Papaver Somniferum family of poppies. I hope this gives you a lil help in which one or ones you will chose @throwdo. Have you checked the websites that I posted? Eden Brothers are having their end of the season sale, so I hope your able to get a decent selection. Give a shout when ya purchase n let us know what your choice is. Can't wait to see what you select n how ya get them to grow. As always, the more pics, the merrier!
