The last pipe I thought was pretty neat. It's a glass tube with an augur looking brass screw running the length. You crank the augur within the glass tube as the weed is burned down.
When I was first shown a picture. It was advertised as $99. Six months later it's about $29.
I thought the design was a cool invention. I wouldn't mind trying one. My current Helix bong isn't the greatest. Should have bought something I could add some ice to.

Nice does the cotton (I assume) and the black thing actually filter out the carcinogens? How well does it work and does it affect the hit or taste? Let me know what your experience are with it. I have yet to try it... Looks pretty neat though

Yes actually it does smooth out the smoke and filters out carcinogens and pesticides and chemicals! It is organic cotton and natural coconut husks charcoal carbon! I like it myself....

Here's a simple conceptual schematic, to cut it short (sort of!...):
My pipe transformation corresponds to half of it actually, it's what i call "Plan-B" and works on clean-burning butane, while "PLan-A" integrates an even more potent energy source into a same structure: electro-magnetic induction heat combined with the Curie effect for better "packetization" of the "heat charge"...
M'well, the principle is no rocket science really. Don't call NASA boys for instructions, just pre-heat the core, remove the flame then start vaporizing in pulsed mode in order to help avoid over-heating. Seen at a distance an observator might conclude the user is "pumping" it much like traditional pipe consumers, no big deal, except there's ZERO fire combustion inside as this is a VAPORIZER, hence non-toxic and quite tasty because of the "1-Hit" time-compressed "conservation" wise experience as a bonus, which those with short breath may find appropriate IMO, etc...
The Metal Disc could be substituted with DynaVap's "CCD Sreen" i presume, you tell me. Or maybe one can find an equivalent in specialized stores, etc. Those were my last best estimations for target dimmensions:
Although i still don't have an explanation for everything i'd recommend paying attention to the ratios and perhaps also the ratio of ratios, ratios being calculated by comparing between SiC Font Puck and Metal Disc vs Metal Disc and Top-of-Bowl SiC Puck, then between those 2 ratios... M'well, i tried a few combinations until that felt appropriate enough to stop searching.
The goal is to soak the goodies with a heat wave that is intense enough to release them so they are carried away as a cannabic stream, though not so hot that would also over-heat the vegetal substrate, spoiling the fun as a result of "ovenizing", so to speak... In adddition a pulsed-mode consumption model allows the operator to sample after each brief pulse, somehow helping to limit damage since when hints of combustion occur it's time to tame-down/delay/cancel the next burst, instead of burning through a bowl...
A session can integrate 2 spheres each with its own core layout, which gives those specific characters. Fatty Mama, as i call her, is for "conservation" wise tasks although the toke can prove potent and flavourful, at the cost of depending of the "Micro-Bursting" ritual using a relatiely high-power blue flame, ranging between the dual-flame and kitchen-size models. The other sphere is more generic in feel, it's "agile" and less restrictive in terms of flame throttle; e.g. that's one i tagged "Basic" (instead of "DeLuxe") because it's a general-purpose configuration working with much any clean-burning blue-flame butane lighter. The fun really happens when switching spheres around during a same session, which can be made of 5 ~ 6 tokes on 1 bowl. Up to nearly a dozen if the guy has expert skills and lungs to match, i figure...
As i recall when i failed in my attempt to create a super "Solo" (using Arizer's glass tube and HerbalAire's v2.1 pod) it was necessary to put around 300 mg in a bowl to obtain satisfying hints of aroma/taste. Maybe in part because of my own lung limitations, while in comparison "Plan-B" offers me at least 2 tasty tokes on a tiny ~125 mg bowl, with 3 ~ 5 more of diminishing quality. Enjoyment depends a lot on visual and gustative hints, so i prefer toking in the morning under a few sunrays, with the widow opened and my lighter tank filled...
Yet it's pointless to attempt sharing the fun much further if one is never going to replicate my conversion experiment(s). All i can tell is that it feels lonely being on top of a tall mountain, having no joy at the thought nobody else can rival with similar treasures!...
So please jump on it if the challenge seems apealing: i've been hoping for someone to take over for a long while now.

In my implementations cotton quickly gets wet so it attracts particles even better i imagine, until it's time to change it that is. No need for water toys hurting aroma/taste. You see the VG pipe is self-moisturizing and that's only the begining of what makes it so different from electric torture machines, balloons or otherwise as those just don't/can't include water in their Inlet path. Etc.

It's a way to illustrate what's on the menu of "Plan-B", or even "Plan-A" ideally. The concept supports bi-energy where it's OKay to switch between butane and induction heat at will, though induction heat requires distilled water to "potentialize" the inlet stream of hot dry air arriving from an auxiliary pre-heating stage. "Plan-B" says it all, it's a fall-back scenario for when butane turns more convenient than electricity, in deep remote locations for example. Or just for the fun of it, because i figure a mix of both energy sources in a same toking session would seem like an epiphany IMO!
The principle is a radical change of strategy compared to the genuine VaporGenie pattent. It's because i'm exploiting the transitional properties of some bi-energy "thermal bottle" implementation using their pipe as a prototyping platform. From memory, if the hybrid core is composed of a ~3.4 mm thick SiC Front Puck, a ~0.93 mm thick 17-Holes Metal Disc and a ~2.4 mm thick Top-of-Bowl SiC Puck then it becomes possible for the pipe to support a pulse-mode consumption method where the heat burst duration and amplitude do not cause such over-heating as combustion: i tagged this "packetization" of the heat bubble and the associated ritual promotes "conservation" by reducing "ovenizing" contributions to a much lesser level than popular solutions...
It works much like when one extinguishes a candle's flame without burning a fingertip: so in parallel it's simply a matter of matching the ellusive (time-limited) energy reserve which got temporarily stored into that hybrid core (e.g. during a "pre-heating" phase...) versus a bowl's cannabic load, in terms of dryness and mass, essentially, because moist vegetal substrates are quite another story - dry cured flowers work best.
Consequently it happens that having more than 1 hybrid core layout (in a pipe's sphere, for example) proves handy when dealing with cannabis of variable quality. For example, but not only... Because having a capsule with 2 nearly identical hybrid cores shall allow simple direct (brain-dead...) mixing of 2 slightly different heat sources, so to conveniently implement an analog form of heat adjustment hopefully, ranging from aroma/taste appreciation to CBD missons to near-combustion experiments if desired - or salvia divinorum @ 277 °C i'd suppose, etc. Though i'd warn against combustion as it renders the whole thing unpleasant when it comes to maintenance! Better seek golden honey instead...
Anyway, the illustration was meant to show how a concept can make pre-emptive room for evolutionism i guess. I was just looking at protopipes for old time sake. I bought a few silicone pipes, something for on the go. Haven't used them yet but, I like that they don't break.

my first Pp cost me 50 bucks at a smoke shop in 1994. Last year I bought a case of them to give as gifts for under 15 bucks a piece, well worth the art imo.
