Is 200 watts HPS too much for seedlings

I have a 400 watts HPS with a 50% setting which would be 200 watts do u think it will be too much??? I have a couple led bulbs in there causing them to stretch and I don't like it I wanna turn on my HPS too stop that but don't wanna burn them up

It won't be too strong if you don't put it too close. But the hps will cause stretching as well. Can you move the led closer without burning them? They're bulbs, do they get hot?

As far as I can see, a LED lamp will better than an HPS. In one way, at the same level, a LED luminous is about 2.8 times of an HPS. So a 400-watt HPS lamp is just same as a 143 watt LED lamp, it can save you much more power consumption. In the other way, a LED lamp will release less heater than HPS, so it won't burn up your leaves, and it contains full spectrums as the sunshine

The led bulbs are earth bulbs that are 5000k there not like a led grow lights..How about hps about 2ft high with led bulbs about 12 in. High They put out no heat at all... Should I use an MH bulb instead I have 600 watt MH with ballast should I use it instead I can put it at 250 watts.. they are autos

The mh will work great, switch your hps when it starts flowering. I've even went seed to harvest with autos under an hps. They don't seem to stretch as bad as photos vegging under an hps.

K I had heard that HPS was good for autos .. MH is for photoperiod more than autos because of short veg . But if u think MH is better I will switch ballast and bulb ..

You can go either way. If you feel the stretching is bad, use the mh. If not use the hps. I had my hps at 600 watts for my autos. Once it gets used to the HID you can turn it up and it should grow good if everything else is in order.

It can only help with your stretching problem. You will most likely be fine either way.

Oh yeah, think bigger, I use about 10 of those in my vegging and seedling box.
When we veg larger plants and clones we just go straight to COB.

Hey whats up man I was just browsing your posts...here's a link to what I use for first 2-3 weeks veg for 6 at a time and you can control the stretch perfectly. It's 4 2ft t5 bulbs in a reflector setup. Not sure if it's in the price range you were thinking but I love mine. It's about 50 bones. It takes care of my seedlings perfectly and you can use it at half power to save on electricity if need be. Link:

That's actually exactly what I was looking for ... I'm finally going back to work so I will pick some up soon ... I lowered my ballast down keeping them about 20 inches from the little plants ... Thank you

More red light in the spectrum (HPS) will promote stretch more and more blue light (MH) in the spectrum promotes bushier more compact plants.
