I am going to make my own medium next grow for sure. I think this soil is causing all my problems. I just read it was a good cheap alternative, but hey its my first grow. The more mistakes the more I learn. Also i do keep my light at 20 inches. I had the same thought as you to start high and if be move down.
Yeah i mean you got to figure, your base medium ( soil, coco, Dwc etc) is going to be the home for your roots its entire life cycle. Definetly one of the most important factors in a successful grow. Like you said, it's all a learning curve. People find what works for them and what doesent. Everyone has different experiences which is what makes this hobby so much fun.

If you're having success with led's I'd take that route. Less heat, they will actually last a long time, plus your energy bill won't break the bank![/QUOTE]for one that looks like u have over watered second u don't adjust the value of soil dropping pH in soil so fast WILL cause lock out soil needs time to buffer the pH I can tell u now kellogs has a pH of 8 on a run off u hit it with a pH of 6 and fucked it up soil pH is 7 and only 7 coco is 6.3-6.5 soiless is 5.5-6.0

So if the soil has a ph of 8 what should I adjust my water to?

Update I let my plants dry for a week. I watered and got a high ph run off. I then flushed with lower ph water. I got my run off at around 6.3-6.5. Just a few hours later my plants are already coming back. I just had them locked out and overwatered. I hope im out of this rut and my plants continue to heal. Thank you all for your help!20170927_162448.jpg

Your plants are looking strong man. Way to get it all dialed in before flipping to 12 12. Keep up the good work!

Thanks man I appreciate it, I'm learning a fuck ton from all this which is what I wanted. I'm glad I'm making mistakes on my first grow, that way I learn so I can get some better seeds next time and slay it. Oh and I want to switch it to flowering as soon as possible because of height issues. My light is hooked up to a shelf in my closet so I don't have the full height of the closet till I tear it out and mount my light to the ceiling (I'm going to next grow). My tallest plant is about 14 inches. So my question is can I switch my plants to 12-12 now or should I wait till they heal up all the way?

Honestly. I reccomend anyone with an led set up to flower no later than 18 inches in height. Because after about 2 ft of plant. The buds get drastically smaller and you end up cutting the lower branches anyway

I'm using a 600 watt hid, i want to try led in the future. Anyways I just read that plants typically double in height when in the flowering stage. I don't want to get myself into a height issue at the end of flowering. My next grow I'll let them veg to a greater size. I just want to make sure I can flower them now. My bigger plants are already showing some pre flowers. You think it's okay to make the switch?

I'm sure it's fine to make the switch, it sounds like you've been in veg for around a month now which is about my normal veg time. Not all strains stretch the same. If you need to about halfway through the stretch you can put a second trellis up and do some more training to try to even the canopy out.

Ya I know I'll have to do some training with the bigger two to keep things even. I was just worried if I switched them to 12-12 right now it would shock them since they were having some trouble the last week. So you think they should be fine? I appreciate the response!

How tall are your plants? And some strains will double in size but not all. Some dony stretch very much. I'm not sure if you do any topping or training but I always lst my tallest branches the day im flipping to 12 12. That will help keep my plant in control by doing two things. First. By pulling all your taller branches down to the side. Your ensuring you will have enouhh clearance between your lights and plants. Secondly, your flattening out the entire canopy ideally. And all those small short branches in the middle that are now exposed to more light and are close to the same height as your taller branches ( since you pulled them down to the sides ) now all your branches will stretch uniformly together and will ensure getting your lights as close to plant tops as possible. Not sure if that made sense. Hopefully it did. If you have any questions feel free to ask!

Yes it made perfect sense! I've done some research about training. I just dont want to chance it, but then again my plants are growing really bushy. The nodes are close together so it might not extend that much either. Im just a newbie so i have no idea what these plants will do.

Hi everyone this is my first post, I just wanted to share my first grow and get some good info/tips you experienced growers might have to share. My plants are currently only 2 weeks old from sprout. I am growing in my closet. They are in Kellogg's organic patio plus soil with added perlite, 2 gal pots, under a cfl hood i built. I ordered a 600w hps air cooled hood with ducting and inline fan. I have also ordered other essentials like: fox farms trio nutrients, ph up and down, ph meter, and humidity and temp reader. The experiance so far has been great and I am exited to see how well it goes. View attachment 4010985 View attachment 4010986View attachment 4010987
How big is your closet? My only advice is, don't wait to long to flip to 12 12 if space is an issue. Once you start flower it get crowded pretty quick.

Train early and often dont worry abought hurting the plant. If indoors from seed i suggest a mainline. In the future if you have a problem check ph first. Not only is it the easiest to check but the easiest to fix. Not counting making sure not to over water lol.

Ya I definitely learned from this, I'm enjoying growing. Hopefully they'll do good through flower and I get a rewarding harvest!

Couple dwarf strains may only reach 20 in
Most indica close to 26 in sative around 36 to 40
26 inches would be perfect! I can tell they're Indica dominant. How much do you think each plant will yield if everything goes well. I know it's hard to tell, but what would be a rough estimate?

For sure. Get a harvest under your belt and you will be amazed how much you will learn by the end of it. If you've never seen a plant stretch before just wait. My OG ghost train haze stretched almost mkre than double its size. It's amazing to see how the plants structure transforms completely different than how it is in veg. Good luck with the rest of your grow man

I'm definitely exited to see how things turn out. It amazes me how these plants veg, can't wait to see them bloom
