Choosing to protest anything during the anthem is making a conscious choice to offend. It is the offensiveness of it that draws the attention to it. Nobody has the right not to be offended so it comes down to the appropriateness of it. It is pretty clear it is effective for the cause, but the consequences to this civic tradition are unclear. I'm curious to see what happens next.

I think last weekends protest was more a Fuck You to Trump for creating a false dilemma. Meaning reasonable people can both love the anthem and strongly support civil rights.

If you're offended, change the channel. It's right there on your remote. No kneeling required.

How is kneeling for the anthem disrespectful?

You want compulsory respect? That's the policy of authoritarianism.

Huh? Helluva leap again. So its ok for Nazis to roam the streets saying Jews won't replace us or whatever garbage but a football player can't take a silent knee in protest of police brutality. Cool beans
