I'm moving towards the idea that filling the res through the PVC might be best. Here is why.

I noticed my plant often looked droopy.. Coco/perlite. I was giving her a gallon per day of nuts which filled the res and overflowed a little. A few days ago I wanted to see how long I could go without watering before she looked dried out. To my surprise on day 2 she looked really happy. The leaves were all praying.

At day 2.5 I swiched my nutes to flower and gave her a gallon from the top and she soon looked really droppy agai. Now it's been 24 hours and she look ok again. I'm going to gently stick some pvs down into the res and water that way to see how things go. My guess is that the coco is holding too much moisture.

here I am 2 weeks since the flip. I still can't get over how thick the trunk is.

That THICK STALK is a beautiful thing...genetics plays a role but SO DOES the skill of the grower...your upper plant loves the fact that the infrastructure, delivering life, is that healthy...those stalks and thick branching will never have to struggle moving water and nutrients...Same thing with Thick root systems, where it all starts...when your plant is that robust, you can rest assure your roots are healthy (at that time)...what goes on above ground is governed by what is going on below, and she seems VERY HAPPY.....

Yea, by far the heartiest plant I have ever grown. The trunk is like a nutrients super highway.. I've never come close to this girth in soil. We noticed the same thing in the waterfarm. It took a saw to chop her down..

You just cant beat a well tuned hydroponic system.....It also cuts down on total time for the entire life cycle....many vegetables are grown hydroponically now cause the ease and yields cant be beat...try to grow this tomato 'plant' (singular) in DIRT...LOL....Healthy roots, stalks and a balanced nutrient program, hydro simply cannot be matched....yes those are tomatoes, not an apple tree..LOL...imagine the root system and stalks needed to serve everything over head!!!....it does sound like your seeing the benefits compared to soil growing...Dont get me wrong, I have NOTHING against soil growers, and beautiful plants are grown using organics....but the fact remains that hydroponics offer a much better balanced nute program that can remain tuned during every stage of growth.....

20170918_205231-1-1.jpg This pic not too much different from the last I posted, but while I am here, I will put it up....20 day into flower (after timer flip)...I mention the timer flip thing, because I still see a fair amt of ppl think that flower time listed in a strains specifications, means from the 1st sign of pistils...Its NOT....Its from timer flip....the single nug pic is my lone Bubble Bomb...she has some righteous resins forming for 20 days imto timer flip...Almost looks smokable now....LOL
As lean as I like to run my nutes, I DID have to increase them at tonights watering...My White Widow and one THC Bomb showed the first sign of wanting more food..they green got a shade lighter....I only upped it 50 ppms from 600 to a 650, BUT used my Dyna Grow formula instead of the Dyna Bloom...the only suppliment I use is Monster bloom during flower, so the Dyna Grow will add a higher Nitrogen while the Monster bloom will assure my flower numbers wont be compromised... There was such a heavy growth spurt going into flower, they needed a little more nitrogen...I keep my plants on the grow formula THRU stretch and then transition to bloom formula, but they wanted a higher 'N' even longer this time....Being a lean feeder, I never get in an over feeding situation...If I do need an adjustment, its ALWAYS to add more and they never skip a beat....they are chunking up quick now....cant wait to see what these Bomb seeds genetics are capable of....Y.T.

I had bought (10) THC Bomb REGULAR seed along with the femimized ones I got...I kept 1 of the 10...I trashed the males primarily by appearance..If they were not males, they were tall lanky females I would not have planted anyways...There was 1 plant out of the remaining 6 that was far above the others with all attributes...OBVIOUSLY A FEMALE TOO...Anyways, I had transplanted it from a 8oz styro coffee cup to a hempy solo cup...I put it on a little stand against the back wall, in with my 6 main plants....it has 10 tops but is only 12 inches tall...the hole in the side of the cup is 2.5" up from the bottom...pretty high up for a solo cup, BUT is necessary to hold enuf water/nute solution....It BARELY makes it thru a cycle with a single watering...I had never flowered one all the way out in a solo cup, so wanted to push this to the limit primarily out of curiosity...So far so good....It will also give me an opportunity to sample the quality of that plant..quite possibly will earn a spot in the next crop...My 2 sativa dominant THC Bombs are in the front of the full crop pic...my understanding, is these are the ones that get the mega size potent tops..my other 2 THC Bombs are both in the back row and are both indica dominant...the single plant pic is the bigger of the 2 sativa doms...The structure of both sure have the potential to carry some classic THC Bomb, BOMBS...the sativa dom ones also have more advanced resin formation SO FAR as compared to the indica doms...Y.T.......quick edit...these pics from day 22 of flower (timer flip)...20170920_185301.jpg 20170920_021914.jpg IMG-097f939c-6959-4290-a98e-ef99315a4521.png 20170920_185321.jpg

Yankee.. Check it out.. running out of space :) I should be ok.. Seems like I have about 8 inches of height in reserve..
View attachment 4013934 View attachment 4013935
Your good to go..once u have those established POPCORN TOPS, the height is pretty much done...They will creep a cpl inches in what I call Bud Creep...they just zigzag a little taller as the buds form...Dont be afraid at this point to pluck off a cpl shade leaves on each main...I will always leave the top 3 or 4 of them, but below that, pluck them off a cpl at a time..it will WAY open the plant up to better light...Mother nature has provided this WEED with ample solar panels...in nature, the lose leaves to pests, animals, winds and other physical damage...Opening up your canopy to light WILL NOT harm the plant...there is still PLENTY of square inches of leaf left to serve the plant....At this point, you want to grow buds, not big leaves....I been defoliating for decades, and that in conjunction with my light mover give a VERY uniform ripening and worthwile lower buds....Anyone who says they wouldnt be there unless they need to be, DONT KNOW WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT....there is a difference btwn selective defoliation and RAPING your plant of all the leaves...Its a technique that works GREAT when done properly....u timed your flowering nicely...you want that space filled without being over crowded and it looks just right...KUDOS...looking forward to seeing it in full bloom!!!

Hey Sunny, I looked back a few pages to see what wattages your running over that plant???....didnt see it anywhere...you mentioning the limited height space, and it made me wonder what your lights are putting out....Tell you what, they get MUCH better coverage with those 2 bulbs as opposed to 1 with equal wattage...light coming from 2 different source locations, makes the light hit them from more angles...a bud behind a large shade leaf with a single bulb, is ALWAYS in the shade of that leaf....Thats the wonderful thing about light movers, OR, multiple bulbs if a mover just isn't practical for someone's space...add a little defoliation, and all potential budding sites are hit with good light....I am a BIG FAN of micro gardens...I did all of my nerve racking LARGE (Multiple bedroom) when I was younger...now I just kick back and find ways to maximize my little 4ft by 5ft closet...I found that everytime I expanded, the yield per sq.footage went down...the more I expanded the smaller that number got...LOL...Maybe with a LARGE grow, every plant didnt get as much TLC as they would in a micro grow......It is fun to challange every crop with your next one....I always considered doing my closet with 1 plant in a scrog set up, but the walls block access to the sides and far end....otherwise, I would have tried it...tents are a perfect chamber for accessing a scrog crop.....nothing more beautiful than a 600w 4ft by 4ft SCROG (done properly) with 1 plant....this link has a Berry Bomb grow with 1 plant.... I return to it offen for a little scratch and sniff.....Perfectly executed single plant scrog....early pics of it, remind me of your plant...

I put this pic up in another thread about improving taste in hempy buckets....I mentioned that I have used all the commercial products and every concoction that sounded decent...BUT, after tons of research, trial and error, it came down to this Coconut flower sugar...its an unrefined GRANULAR sugar made from the sap of pulverized coconut flowers....It actually has quite a few natural minerals/nutrients and it seems to be absorbed much easier than others I have tried...It sweetens better than any other I have used, AND ADDS WEIGHT like no other....of course, there are other brand names too....mix a cup into a quart of very warm water, and mix till its completely dissolved....2 weeks prior to harvest, I mix 2 tbsp per 5 gals..the last week I double that rate...It is not sticky and basically odorless....So essentially, when your cutting out nutes late in flower, your giving them only this in pH'ed water....A few days after starting it, the buds start leaning much harder.....Not sure why this sugar works so much better than others, just that IT DOES....I am convinced its absorbed much easier than others...I mix some up EVERY CROP, and would not finish my plants without it...YT20170922_131854.jpg

Haven't read through all 450+ pages yet, but I love this thread.
I just bought this sugar on amazon. 3 pack for under $15! Is there an organic line of nutrients you would recommend?
I'm on my second grow atm. Have 16 small plants in 2L hempies (all perlite) and want to switch to an all organic nutrient option for my next batch. Currently I'm using aquaflakes A&B, Calmag, Big Bud, Hydroplex, Snow Storm Ultra, and Mad Farms Silica. I'm sick of using so many synthetics.

I am using nutrients blended specifically for hydroponics with inert mediums....Here's the thing Zackk, a plant can only absorb elements when they are in their salt form....organics count on it being completely broken down into its individual simple elements....then the elements are essentially the same as they are in a chemical nutrient....Nitrogen is Nitrogen, phosphorus is Phosphorus, etc....with organics, you just cant guarantee the 'perfect' ratio of elements for the plants...with a quality hydroponics blend, YOU CAN...this is the simple fact why hydroponics will outgrow soil all day long...So, since you need organics to do things impossible to completely control, just cut thru the chase and use a nutrient you CAN control....
What I DO USE, is a blend which is a single use formula...I use the Dyna line of nutrients...Dyna Grow for veg, and Dyna bloom for flowering...No 2 part or 3 part mixes...The ONLY thing I add is a little Monster Bloom into my flower mix...I love the results from that product when added to the Dyna bloom....BUT THATS IT....too many ppl have these exotic blends which has a list of addatives a half page long...WAY NOT NECESSARY.....keep it simple, learn how to use it, and most importantly, learn your plants and how to read their needs...I rarely use my TDS meter..I let the plants tell me what to do....

Pic of a Bubble bomb nug at day 26 of flower....I CAN'T WAIT to get a paper around one of these...Yeah, a paper..LOL....I am old school and like nothing better than snipping up a gooey nug, and wrapping up the perfect joint....Its more of an event than just blazing one...the preparation, regardless of how you indulge, is all part of the romance of medicating with cannabis....its just another amazing characteristic, that the ACT of medicating is so pleasant....Not much to share this part of the grow...just kick back and let them do their thing....TDS stable at about 700ppms at a pH of 5.8...For those who DONT have a fair amount of gardens under your belt, heavy activity such as rapid veg and stretch will typically cause pH fluctuations/drift...drift is a good thing providing it not extreme and your watching it...Once your about 3 weeks into flower this WILL stablize...If your nutrient program is tuned, your pH will stay VERY STABLE till they finish...If it is still rising your probably under feeding, and if its dropping, your probably over feeding...either way, other signs will follow, but thats always an early HEADS UP, before those other signs DO show up...YT

Yea buddy, I always defoliate. Haven't had a bad harvest yet. What I like with my setup is that I can spin the plant every few days and also I can angle my cobs a little here and there to get different angles and coverage.. Like the light mover.

Can't wait fo the buds to start filling out.

Yea, I ran out of patience and tore off my net :)The scrog worked well to get a lot of nice uniform colas. I like to be able to move my plant around and sometimes take her out for grooming etc.. I probably F with my single plants too much, but it's fun..

I'm wondering if I'll get seeds on this one.. I know I have pollen floating around from my grow 6 months ago..I don't mind a few seeds here and there. I think on my latest harvest I had probably 30 seeds. Nice ones too..

That is a sweet video. It shows patience and diligence in the grower.

That the main reason I dont use scrog nets...It LOCKS every thing into place...being in a closet, I also cant get at the back them either....It works fine in tents and open rooms, but still locks them in place...with a light mover and access to all sides, is the only time it would make sense to me...I have become pretty good at prunning over the years...Usually all my main tops are only a few inches different in height....If its a weak stem plant, I WILL throw a tomato cage on it...
I wouldnt worry about 6 month old residual pollen...Needs to be PROPERLY stored to remain viable for that long...I would be VERY surprised if you find any...looking forward to seeing some gooey knots on her....Got a friend who just pulled 10.75 oz off a Incredible Bulk plant in one of my Hempy buckets...LOVE that strain...My I.B. is taller and buds not as big...still does ok though...gonna get a cpl cuts off his...unless I get a CRAZY THC bomb from these, I will be growing that mostly...I love the IB buzz and so doesnt everyone in my circle...VERY POTENT but has a TON of character...with the plant size I can do with my 6 buckets, in my closet, without overcrowding, I'm looking at 7 jars a plant with that cutting...Serious #'s for 20 sq feet....Dr Kripplings breeders hit a home run with that one...My White Widow in this picture gave me 5.75 jars last crop and my Buddies IB will squash that yield...nug pic is an I.B..great density, deceptively heavy....Y.T.

hey guys, I'm a hydro virgin and just switched to my first hempy (straight perlite) after running soil for indoor and this looks like a good spot to ask for a bit of guidance.

I transplanted a couple of seedlings out of soil cups a few days ago and have been top watering a little bit of 1/4 strength maxigrow once a day or so. I'm keeping them small (testing out if it will be viable to run perpetual 12/12 in 1-2 gal containers). Also going to slowly up the nutes over the coming days as the first true leaves are looking slightly pale - new growth looks good though.

My question: In a perfect world (lets assume everythings dialled in even though it isnt yet), roughly how long before your roots are in the rez if your container is around 30cm deep? Trying to work out a bit of a timeline...

i start mine in dixie cups, then go to 2.5 qt nursery pots, then i go to 2.5 or 3 gallon hempies, and it usually takes a week to ten days for them to hit the res. you can tell when they do, growth takes off and you start to get those huge shade leaves

I agree with Roger....I'm in 5 gal buckets and my roots bottom out in a week..10 days they are REALLY SHOWING IT....I also plant VERY well rooted clones....your plan sounds good so far...YT
