I'll stick to the guns as long as I have money to do so. Somebody suggested a GoFundMe page and that's an option if this whole thing turns sour

Sorry to hear about your troubles but looks like a straight forward case, employers have to deal with this shit and if needed the GoFundMe option is not a bad idea. I'd be in on that, if you go that route post the link here.

PM me if you want tips on what I did and said. I actually wrote the national mmj policy for Scouts Canada. Stand your ground and force them to address it. Another option is to take paid medical leave until they are able to accommodate, speeds up the process sometimes.

I didnt think of that...paid medical.

My status is currently suspended without pay. Would instill be covered by those benefits?

FIRST OF ALL.. better check your employer's handbook and what you signed when you took the job!! If an employer has it stated no drugs in workplace and especially anything to do with the STATE, then you are held accountable. NO EXCEPTIONS...:!:

Does it make a difference that his doctor prescribed it as a medication?
 
This is quite funny.

Asking for legal advice on a pot forum - you are better off going to see a tarot card reader.

If you are suspended without pay that means they feel that there is adequate grounds to let you go with cause. Not letting them know you were on medication that impairs is most likely against their policy.

There is no human rights violation. I doubt that the HRC told you anything since their backlog of cases is 4-5 years. They won't be putting you ahead of all those GSA cases that have been filed by parents.

If anything you should be let go for putting the safety of others at risk which is how both the courts and the tribunal will rule on the side of.

But go ahead, please waste your time and money. Or you can get another job and move on.

And youre inability to read is astounding. Ive seen your replies to posts. Youre barely literate it appears.

Any, i dont believe i asked for advice. I said i need a lawyer. However, some folks have offered advice. And i thank them for that.

1) that may be true in the states, im in canada.
2) if a condition arises after the fact then the doc was signed in good faith.
3) discrimination against a disability is not allowed in cananda regardless of what was signed...
4) the drug policy wasnt made known to me until after i signed my offer sheet anyway. Both are dated. So it is irrelavant.

Upset because I am right? AB HRC doesn't even have a chief of the tribunal right now so it isn't likely that fake medical patients are high up on the priority list. Good luck on getting the doctor who signed to testify on your behalf which is what you will need.

But you know better. Go ahead and spend your money on a lawyer if you can get one to take your case. Call the law society's referral line and see who they suggest. I would guess that you have already tried and failed, now are looking for some sympathy on the forum.

If not please keep us all notified (links to Edmonton Journal articles will work) on progress for educational and entertainment purposes!

Scouts does not make their internal documents public. It has been in effect since 2014. It pretty much just mirrors their alcohol and drug policy (which includes legal prescriptions), and is aimed at keeping it away from the eyes of the kids. I'm sure you can get a copy with a written request to head office in Ottawa if you are so inclined.
