Attic vs. Basement

I started a new grow in one of the bedrooms of my new home almost two months ago, and it is ready to go into bloom. I want to keep this room a dedicated veg room, so I need to select a room in my basement or remodel my attic in order to have a dedicated bloom room.

As with any decision of this nature, it's always best to weigh the pros and cons.

Pros of using basement room:

1. Out of the main traffic areas and discrete.
2. Room is already complete, no remodeling costs.
3. Right next to basement bathroom for dumping old DWC water.

Cons of using basement room:

1. Low ceilings (6' 4").
2. No way to use window AC, must use portable AC, but vent hose is not long enough.
3. Will probably stink up entire house even if vented/filtered properly.

Pros of using attic room:

1. On top of house, easy to vent and use window AC.
2. More floor space and higher ceilings (9' 2").
3. Not as humid as basement, which means less mold or mildew.

Cons of using attic room:

1. Will cost $600 to remodel and take 7-12 days if I can find a helper. Ladies need flipped now.
2. No plumbing in room, must use stairs to dump DWC waste water.
3. It's right on top of my wife's room and she gets up at 4am to work. I am a night owl.

Any thoughts or input would be much appreciated. Several of these ladies are already 5-foot tall after less than 60 days from seed! Critical Kush and OG Kush. I plan to do a scrog as soon as I choose which room to move them into one of these rooms, so the height of the room is not that big of an issue. I should have planned this out ahead of time, but as many of my fellow stoners do, I got stoned and procrastinated lol.

With proper ventilation it shouldn't stick anything out.

I too like basements, check your RH out before doing anything.

As far as the attic goes, install a sink, its not hard and not expensive if you have to pay someone to do it. But with modern fittings you can do it yourself.

I would go basement if it was me and the RH wasn't too high and its totally free of damp.

just my opinion, stealth should always be number one i would keep it in the basement. if your willing to spend money on renovating the upstairs i think the money would be better spent installing a diy mini split a/c like mr cool (doesnt require venting) there very easy to hookup. as for smell depending on your square footage calculate the appropriate cubic ft/min and use a small carbon filter that the a/c will over power. if you have proper a/c and a carbon filter im sure the height of 6'4" will be manageable as long as your topping and not growing equatorial sativa's

All depends on how big your ladies are when you flip to flower. The question is, will 6’4” be big enough? If so, use the basement. If not, use the attic and run some plumbing to the attic.

Without more info, it's hard to say exactly what will be your best option.
But I think it's already been said.. take whatever money you WERE planning ob spending to remodel the attic, and spend it getting a proper A/C, and dehumidifier for the basement.
It's seclusion from the rest of the house, and from the outside seemingly make it an ideal candidate for a flower room.
It's access to water, and drainage, combined with it's being underground and therefore less susceptible to the temperature changes outside just add to my belief that it is your best bet.

Perhaps instead of a new type of A/C unit, you can buy what you need to make the current one useable down there.

Not having to do any extensive remodeling or work, as you would have to in the attic, should allow for that money to be more wisely used in the basement!
Absolutely want to seal off the grow area, and use a carbon filter to remove the smell that those ladies will doubtlessly begin emitting!

Good luck!

Also, with regards to your picture... Are you sure those are Kush? Kush is primarily an indica, or indica leaning hybrid strain.. and those gals look like they have a lot of Sativa in them.. their size, and leaves look it at least..

WTF? Are you sure you are qualified to make such a statement? Just kinda made yourself look very amateurish.

IMO, the idea that a basment grow will make your house smell is simply untrue.
Use an adequate carbon filter and it will be fine. The only time you can smell my grow in my house is when I'm trimming.
