I often do charity work, but would not dream of forcing others to fund my "good ideas" under threat of me using force against them.

Some military families have more than one person working. Some don't.

What I can tell you is that if I had a family when I was in it would have been hard to make it even with housing allowance.

Some will even purposefully work less hours to stay "under the line".

I would say the problem with any kind of "government charity" is that it isn't really charity.

Charity is when people of their own volition decide to help somebody, not when a third party determines who will do what and failing to comply will cause a harm to the self determining person.
