I'm dumb and I need guidance.

I’m an idiot and I need direction

Alright I want to throw some ideas at you guys.

I currently have the following items for my grow:

  • 2 x 2 x 5 tent

  • Three of those UFO LED lights (not a clue on the specifications)

  • A furnace room where the tent is located.

  • An exhaust fan

  • 5 feminized Maui Waui seeds

I think I want to have a perpetual grow going. The thing that I don’t understand fully is mother plant management. Obviously I gotta start somewhere. So in my mind I try one seed (maybe two). I figure I start with one or two seeds grow the mother plant(s) till I can get like 6 clones. I have found some plans for building my own cloner. So I figure I can get six new plants outta that. This is where I get foggy. Should I completely butcher the mother plant or should I think of going another way. If so any ideas? Can I even effectively grow 6 plants in a 2 x 2 x 5 tent. I plan on using hydroponics to grow. I have no idea which way I am going to do this. I am thinking about using aeroponics but if you all know of a better way I am open to listen. I know there is a technique called SOG but I feel like my brain is going to blow up when I see those letters in that arrangement. So essentially with my plan I will be growing the plant to essentially not have anything to show for it till the clones finally are ready to start that process. Is there a better way?

Is there a way that maybe I can start a couple mother plants in a smaller grow area. What is the smallest area that I can grow a mother plant? I actually converted a small desktop computer into a grow box. I had 3 CFL bulbs inside it. I never consider it to grow mother plants because it is such a small area. I didn’t want to buy a second tent just to grow mothers when I feel like space should be optimized around plants that are going to flower.

Any thoughts or direction would be much appreciated.

You can grow one small plant in that tent. End of story, no perpetual, nothing else.

One fairly small plant.

Or maybe four 1 gallon pots, untopped 12/12 from seed, in a SOG...but don’t do that.

you can do it in a 2x2. grow two plants out. as they grow out get some good veg time on them and top them a few times to get some bushiness going for you. After that take a few clone cuts and flip to flower. In the second week of flower you will have a second chance to take a couple extra clone cuts from the best developer. clip a couple and let her grow out to flower. get your clones going in two weeks and after four weeks, they should be ready for a T5 2' light until your tent is ready again, and you can take your clone cuts and run them and repeat until you are tired of repeating. All you need is a small clone setup, to veg in.
good luck, not dump actually smart thinking.

2x2 will produce the same with 1 plant in 5 gallons or 4 plants in 2 gallons sog.
Michael or Vegas both will steer you in the right direction.
Dialed in, 1 plant could produce 6 oz.
2 might get 3 oz each.
4 might get 1.5 oz each etc etc largely dependent on genetics and environment.
You results WILL vary.
Your not dumb and 2x2 is a great start.
Try to find your actuall light wattage and study up on soil/hydro. A couple ufos will work but take a look at cobs.
And keep your temps in check.

Great post, I agree totally.

I actually grow in a 2x2, started with 8 plants SOG style. That's basically 2 plants per sq ft, each in a 4x4 rockwool (I know, I get overly ambitious sometimes :bigjoint:).

Plants went through storm, 5 days without power, and end up with root problems. 3 died (cuz of root problem) and I think the remaining 5 will be able to make it to harvest.

Currently, all plants are putting out nice colas and I might even have a good harvest. If I get 5 oz, or more I'll be stoked.

But....

Next time around, I'll stick to 1 plant per sq ft. It's hard to manage 8 plants in a 2x2 area (I'm always crawling under the canopy), specially if I try to rotate them (it's a nightmare :fire:)

So I just wanna make sure I understand.

I'm essentially going to need another area to grow the mother plant in order to achieve a perpetual grow. Is this correct?

I could grow a single plant in the right environment (10 gallon bucket or in soil) and yield a couple zones (ounces) of wonderful flowers.

So I guess how much space do I need to grow a mother plant? Correct me if I am wrong but we are only growing the mother plant to make clones right?

A 2x2 tent should be good for a decent mother, if you want to go that route. Because yes, the only reason is so that you can clone it and keep growing the same plant over and over. I just buy feminized seeds, much simpler and you get a variety that way. And a single plant vegged for 4 weeks or so and then flipped to 12/12 can yield you 5 or 6 oz's, or more, in a 5 gallon pot. I've been growing in a 4x4 tent with a 400W hps and yield 4-6 oz's dried and cured per plant. My last grow was 550grams, just a hair under an average of 5oz per plant.

Alright more dumb questions.
Aren't you scared of buying seeds and "getting in trouble". I am afraid of getting that knock on my door if you know what I mean. I've been wanting to do that too (buy femininized seeds). What are some good procedures for that?

Next dumb question. When does the plant leave seedling and go into veg? I've been letting my plants grow for more than a couple months (maybe even three) before I switched to 12-12. Have I been vegging to long?

No, I am not scared of "getting that knock on my door". The feds aren't going to come and bust down the door of somebody who just ordered a few seeds. The most that happens is that they get confiscated. I've been ordering them for a decade now from both Nirvana and The Attitude without a single issue. The plant is in "veg" from the moment is sprouts, the seedling stage is a vegetative state. If your plants are healthy and getting enough light and nutrients letting them veg for 2-3 months should yield plants that won't fit in your house since most will at least double and some come close to tripling in size during flower.

I do refer to my babies as seedlings for about a week after they break ground. It's a tender time, so I consider it a stage - I run a very unprofessional grow!
If you are growing natural plants, yes 2-3 months is too long. Most people are topping, training, or doing something else with the long veg times. 4-6 week veg, on seedlings, will produce plants manageable for your tent, grown natural.

I got 4 plants with a 6 week veg in my 2x3 tent, wouldn't recommend! Two plants mainlined for 8 colas kept parallel to each other would max out space perfectly IMO. I've been ordering seeds online since I was 15, never had a problem. I'm much older now lol

you could benefit from training 4 plants from seed. You could try mainlining.

http://www.growweedeasy.com/manifold

no training you get 1 main cola for each plant and a few more smaller bud sites on a plant.
Mainlining you can have 8 cola's on each plant

also to note when mainlining 8 tops is considered good to do on an indoor grow.
if your growing outdoors you could do 16 or 32 even but never consider 16 or 32 for an indoor grow cause its not really feasable cause no light = the sun and all that fresh air circulating outdoors helps a grow immensly.
so when we grow indoors we want to recreate as much lighting as our grow space will allow
not sure UFO leds will truly provide enough tbh.

Alright my next issue is that I think my lights are both too far away from the plants and potentially not the right strength. I have never received any yields anywhere close to what you all are getting. I noticed that the distance between my nodes (in my former grows) are greater than some of the ones I'm seeing on this site. My last grow indoor grow I used soil as my medium.

After all this conversation I am thinking of going back to soil just to perfect my craft. The next change I want to make is with lighting. Anybody got any ideas in this department. I am thinking of buying some T8 lights for my 2x2 tent.

Are my UFO lights good for anything (sprouts, vegetative, etc)?
