Because they use a specific temperature flame and good technique to melt it. When it breaks it's due to shock, if you heat it very carefully and slowly it would melt instead of shattering

Usually borosilicate has a maximum heating temperature of around 500c, the butane torch you'll be using to heat it is burning at over 1400c
