Best color temp for veg?

I'm beginning to believe the "more red" that's needed isn't something we can get in white LEDs... at least not in the amounts needed for the Emerson effect to function.

All the runs I've done at 3350K (2:1 mix of 3000/4000) stretch stops very early in flower.

I've completed one run at 3000K, had massive stretch... however I only got the lamp done after vegging under T5 tubes and going about 2 weeks into flower. I hypothesize that the switch in light had something to do with it. I'm on my second run with 3000K and just going into week 5 it looks like the stretch is similar to the results I've had with 3350K, minimal.

I'd be curious to know if anyone has vegged with both 3000 and 4000. In the case of both my lamps operating at sub 4000K temps the veg has been "bushy" with plants typically showing as much lateral growth as vertical, very thick and leafy. I'm not sold on the +4000K veg yet. I do like the idea of higher efficacy with the higher color temps, but there doesn't seem to be a meaningful variation between the various temps in that regard, at least with Vero.

I just checked and it's the same with CXBs, though there is a 70 CRI option that opens up with the 4000K temp that does have higher efficacy.
Bump- just finishing up my first run of "3000k only". Using an HLG qb288. In veg, was it running it at ~70watts from the wall 2ft over head. Slowly bumped up the wattage, week by week, and have been running at ~159 watts from the wall, driver included. So I'm guessing about 145watts to the actual light?
Anyway, yah, height was controlled very, very well. Every time I started to see some stretch, I bumped up the wattage on the light & it stopped in its tracks every time. Running GDP, GSC & an unknown indica in a 32" X 32" tent. Canopy is a 26" X 32" rectangle, each plant at least as wide as it is tall. Fantastic lateral growth. Responded perfect to pruning- no noticeable wilting, sad leaves or growth slow-down. Temps strayed up into the low 80's near end of august, w/outside temps reaching triple digits. In flower, the tent stays 72-78 during the day, 68-73 at night. Stretch during flower has been modest - but production is excellent, with colas everywhere, stacked a good 8" deep, with extremely short internodal space. Buds are quickly swelling out laterally, just entered flowering week 6 of 8. Closeup pic was taken this morning, the canopy shot is from ~2weeks ago. The girls in back are sativas and will run a good month longer than their shorter cousins :)

Just a little (ok, maybe big lol) "addendum"... I wanted to mention how well the qb288 is doing penetration-wise (that's what she said, I know lol). Despite the eye popping efficiency ratings & PAR values, I was concerned with the HLG QB288's ability to penetrate down into the canopy. Now, I'm not running 8 foot sativas or anything- but I'm very pleased this far. It's plumping up a tent full of 6"-8" colas, full development all the way down :) Iv noticed with some leds, they produce some nice and frosty colas up top... but within a few inches, the bud density, quality rapidly starts decreasing. So pronounced has this effect been, that a buddy had to regularly harvest the top half of the plant, leaving the bottom half for another's 7-14 days, because nothing below the top of the cola was getting enough light to finish properly. I can DEFINTELY say, with full confidence, that this is not the case with the QB288. These suckers are frosted, plump and solid, a good 8" deep, everywhere in the tent. I've even got a nice sativa cola as long as my forearm, filling out and frosting up just fine, and she's way in the back corner, getting the least light intensity. She'll of course rotate to the center in a couple weeks, when the indicas are pulled, but no joke, this light is blowing up a sativa cola that is well outside of the qb288's recommended 2ftX2ft flowering area, no problem. Anybody considering LED lighting - for your own good, please check out horticultural lighting group (hope I got that right! Lol), also called "HLG". They're difficult to obtain, as word keeps spreading about how awesome they are :) But just sign up for email notification & they'll email u when they restock. I couldn't recommend them more. Efficiency? Crazy high PAR values? Cool running? Hair trigger, exact wattage full dimmability? Full spectrum? Range of K choices? DIY options to save money? Uses only 40% as much electricity? Good from seed to harvest, veg or flower? Capable of hitting-exceeding 1.0gram/watt? Half the cost of competitor lights (same class)? Awesome customer service, with an owner who is a genuinely decent & kind hearted human being, in addition to being fantastically gifted in his field? People, please hear me! I've been growing for over 20 years, used HID for the majority of that. HID has it's place... but please listen when I tell you - these qb288's are special... It has gone toe to toe with Spectrum King & ChilLED lights, and with my own eyes, I'm seeing it outperform (ChilLED), or equal the performance (Spectrum King) of lights that are double the price. $3 a watt is what you're paying for a chilled led light. A Spectrum King will cost u ~$2.50/watt minimum. These HLG QB288's are putting out as good/better quality & intensity, for just over $1 a watt! Robin is really being kind with the price point on these... they sell out instantly (a testament to how awesome & sought-after they are), so I advise saving up & waiting on restock. Nov 15 next restock, I believe, if anyone's interested. I will post final yield values if anyone's interested :)

I have some 6500k citizen cobs over my veg table and its vegging really really well. The growth is crazy fast, the spacing is great. I can't imagine much better tbh
Yah, the 5&6k lights are fantastic for veg :) I was just warning against using them for flower... bcuz u WILL see a decrease in yield, compared to the flowering production you see with the 3000, 3500k lights.

1. ..did the 5000 cct veg way better than 3000/3500?

2.I will be using the 5000 cct for flowering/finishing particular sativas to see how it affects the cannibinoids
i have been given some info from someone who used high blue reptile lights ans said it is adifferent ball game
all theleaves fall of and it ripens on the vine..

3.before anyone says no way..they better have tried it first..

i will get backn to y'all on this..

Yah, the 5000K def showed increased vigor during veg... though if you're in a tent, the shorter, bushier structure that the 3000K produces may be better for your situation. If you don't have ceiling issues, though - yah I'd def rec going with a 5000k - or at least 4000k color during veg. But for me... and other tent growers... the results of the 3000k are encouraging. They're still stacking weight with the reduced height, & I'm even able to run sativas :) Got a Jack Herer in mid flower that's been kept down to just under 3ft tall, yee haw! And this baby usually goes at least 5 feet, whether u want it or not lol
She's basically just a 2ft cola with some "bud foothills" at around the 12" mark.
