Question regarding curing spears

I've got some rather dense and fairly decent sized xmas tree shaped spears. After the drying period is over, do you break up the spears into smaller "buds" before putting them in a mason jar for curing? My spears look a little large to just place in a curing jar. Some of my spears are 4.5" tall and 2- 3/4" in girth. I need to know if it's recommenced to put whole spears into the jar after drying, or break them apart into "buds" beforehand ?
If so, will my spears have smaller natural break apart "bud-let" clusters after drying?

I've seen videos where the grower puts big unbroken up spears into a paper bag rather then break them up and put them in a jar. Mine is a small one plant grow with just 8 cola spears.

I was asking about curing larger spears intact vs. breaking them apart into smaller nugs after drying for optimum cure. I take it from your reply that it makes no difference. I was wondering if there might be some effect on curing. I still am.

Takes longer to cure the big buds. But I have never had a problem. The smaller buds in the jars just may dry out first. Sometimes I can't get myself to break up a pretty jar sized top.

Leaving them whole helps with the drying /curing process. It allows the anaerobic bacteria to travel through the plant so they can eat the chlorophyll, which leads to a smoother, tastier plant. However once it is dry, breaking it off the stem won't really do anything to your cure, I have cured giant bugs next to tiny ones with the same effect.

News you can use, thanks. First time grower here. I don''t know why some of you got your panties in a knot. I wouldn't be asking if I was growing pop corn buds. I was just asking if a massive spear would cure better if broken down to smaller nugs. As a first time grower, I didn't think my asking was way below cool. So some of you, kindly fuck off.

Excuse MEEEEEEEE mr. Elite!!!!!!!!

I actually DID Google whether to keep a large spear intact or break it into smaller nugs for curing. I got back nothing specific, so I thought I'd ask here. Got it? If my newb question seems too newb for you, STFU anyways. I've read lots of other newb questions that didn't get elite sarcastic replies.

Canning jars are cheap, granted. I just don't think I'll be able to get all my spears into one jar, whole. Broken up, I might.

If it makes no difference in how the entire buds cures...then question answered, by other than elite snobs. Why don't you go around these threads judging whose questions rate and whose don't. Meanwhile...fuk off. Thank yu.

If you want some advice here you go my guess is you have a bunch of small buds on a branch that's why your calling it a "spear" instead of calling it a bud yes take the buds off the branch when you put it in the jar....

I was just asking opinions about dense spears which aren't gigantic, but are decent sized and really really dense.
Break them up or put them whole into another mason jar? I suppose we get there in the long run.

I'm currently drying them. I'm not even into the curing jar phase yet, heh.

As my modest sized spears dry out, they look as if I could break them into small nugs and jar them (if i want to).

I could break up my modest but dense spears and break them down into smaller nugs, then cure them.
I could also buy another mason jar and fit my modest but unbroken spears into 2 jars and let them cure that way.

Jeremy offered up a vote for keeping the spears whole.

One thing I never thought of which some do... After drying spears...take them out of being jarrred and dry rack them for a day and then put them back into the jar for curing.

What this procedure does, suppoesedly (after proper drying time) is... It allows the moisture from deep inside dense spears to get to the surface to collect, and then evaporate. I kinda like that approach.

It sounds equally as efficient and maybe more convenient than burping a jar everyday for 3 weeks, or, using Boveda paks..

dry in as large portion as I can, aka the plant, or at least entire branches(usually 1-2 weeks). then trim this is when I break the colas down into smaller buds, I do it cause it make things more uniform and easier to get accurate weight. (never seen entire colas for sale in a dispensary before) but in Jamaica the buds are worth less off the branch(whole branch not just a cola). first time, then try both, half in "spears" half in buds. separate jars and run a side by side.
bottom line as long as you keep your temp. and more importantly your humidity in check so mold doesn't start its your preference.

I may just let these dense small spears dry out for 6 days. Blasphemy !

I've been buying weed from so called legit "farms" lately...where they rush out the product too soon. Forget drying/curing. Get it out on there.

Who can blame that $ ?

we trim all our buds down as there's no need to keep them in "spears" and we find they cure more evenly. we don't want any stems or as little as possible in our curing. personal preference.
