What's the recommended watts I need for veg stage and flowering stage? With CFL bulbs.

2x3 - 300w
3x3 - 450w
4x4 - 800w

No you can start off seedlings under cfls but you won't get much of a yield flowering or even vegging for longer than a few weeks under those. I recommend nothing less than a 400w or LED equivalent for mid veg through bloom phase.

A plant will only grow so big before it runs out of light, i wouldn't use 160w of cfl in a space any bigger than 2 sq. Ft. (1x2).

Keep in mind penetration, efficiency & heat is terrible with cfls and will give you nothing like the lights posted above.

Use not less of 300 actual watts of cfl

Dude if you are dead set on using screw in bulbs use led bulbs they are way better and actually grow really nice bud.

Of course u can do it but its not optimal for cfl. If u want to use cfl for vegg optimal will be 300 actual watts and up.

What about t5? Would 200 watts of t5 do for veg?

The veg bulb is 400W MH and the flower bulb is 1000W HPS.

I use 216 w T5's for vegging 3 x 4 area just fine.
