315 CMH + 400w hps for grow opinions

As the title states im considering trying out a different combo of lights for my next harvest. Currently I just experimented with a 400w hps and 450w led and got very good results with it. Since the cmh provides more than just red spectrum....but not enough red spectrum on its own to out perform an hps bulb. What's everybody's thought on combining them? I have a 4x4 tent and think running a 315 lec CMH + 400 watt hps would produce top notch results as long as temps are kept under control. I would only rum this setup during fall and winter when I can pull much colder air Into the tent . Curious if anyone has any thoughts on this or possibly tried this out themselves

Should be a great combo. I'll run a 400MH and 400HPS together sometimes and that works good.

Will be more than enough light for that space so I doubt you'll be disappointed.

CMH make great bud without help from HPS. If you're concerned about gpw then dropping the HPS will help. If you're looking for maximum yield from the space then the extra watts help.

The kind of modern COB and Quantum Board based LED lighting that's extensively discussed in the 'LED and other lighting' section of this site are both more efficient and provide superior spectrum to the above options. Of course they are more expensive but that cost is recouped in energy savings during use.

There's no doubt they all grow good bud.

Personally, I'm pretty partial to LED due to its high efficiency, durability and the quality of results I get with it, as well as the quantity.

I just decided to grab a cheap blurple led. 450w vipar spectra. And am impressed with how well its helped light up all the shaded spots in my tent. I feel like it contributed quite a bit to the quality of these buds. DoesHOW. Stand for grams per watt? Do you thino a 315 cmh out performs a 400 watt hps?

GPW is grams per watt.

I do wish you'd asked around in the LED section before buying LED lighting, there's a lot of makers here who build far better lights for much less money than you just did.

I think a 315W CMH on a square wave ballast is equivalent to about 500W of HPS.

Honestly I paid almost nothing for it. A buddy grower of mine bought it then decided on a different one. I think I gave him 50 bucks for it and it was still in original unopened package. I've looked into other led but haven't found one for decent price . I'll look into that thanks man!

Im getting close to adding a 400w into my 4x4 for the heat alongside my 315w getting cold in my grow space (uk loft).

LED spectrum is sub-par compared to quality spectrum, they also lack intensity for growing big plants.

IMO get a second 315 CMH and you should be able to pull 2 lbs from that 4x4 no problem and the quality will be out of this world, i'd recommend using one 4k and one 3k bulb in those cmh's.

You are still as aggressively stupid about this as you were years ago. Remain in the dark, then- just don't expect anyone else to join you.

Ran similar set up a few runs ago.
315W plus a CLW SS400 LED
Two plants, Super Citrus Haze and a WW, grown in coco.
Tilted the lights and rotated the plants under them.

Pulled 6 WW and 9 SCH zips of tight smokable buds, and about 6 zips of larf, untrimmed buds and sugar leaf shake, made very good Cannabis Oil medicine.
Super Citrus Haze, Seedsman freebie.

I believe you will do well with that setup. I was really pleased with that other than the labor involved, rotating mainly.

...Thread from the dead lol but might help someone ... we're running a single 315 in a 630watt ballast (one side enjoys blowing bulbs)..it seems to work well for us and the tent is surprisingly way cooler than when we ran 2 bulbs under the 1 hood... idk why that would be..thought i'd share

315W ON A SQUARE WAVE BALLAST is a good budget compromise until you can afford good quality LED.

The low frequency square wave ballast is what makes it efficient, so be absolutely sure that's what you're getting.
