internode spacing

my plant is only 31 days old. its 20 inches tall. it has already started to flower. the problem i have is that the internodes have stretched dramatically. 1-2 inches. will the buds cover the whole internode space?

damn that is stretchy. I get that many nodes in 5-6 inches lol. you will need stake them when the weight comes on. Light needs to be close during veg to keep the nodes tight.

the lights have always been 2-3 inches away from the plant. thats why im confused as to why its stretching like that and it only occurs at night when the lights are off.. its like its determined to get as tall as it can during its dark hrs

whats you pheno type, or breed? from the looks of it, its heavy sativa strain....

Lighting not intense enough could be a likely culprit

Some strains also just do that. There's a number of things that can cause it and ways to minimize it but without knowing the specifics about the lighting, atmospheric conditions, and even a few things about the nutrients it's hard to say if it isn't just the plant doing its thing.

I wouldn't worry too much about whether or not the plant will fill in those spaces. The important thing is to cover your bases as far as giving the plant the most ideal conditions you can and then let roll from there.

i dont use nutrients or any chems. just water. its in a fairly good sized closet, all sides of the wall have been painted bright white. the temp stays around 72-76 degrees. theres good air circulation.. this the first and only plant that has ever did this

when are you gonna flip to 12/12, from the pictures it looks like it wants too....
40 day mark im going to 12/12. its been 14/10 since i planted it. i didnt even expect it to get as big as it did. my other plant aint even half that size and they exactly the same age old

from the sound of it, its the strain you found, just my opinion though

might think of flipping a tad earlier

None of this would explain anything about the long internodes. It probably is just the strain. Longer vegging photoperiod would probably help with the internodes though.

You will have to start feeding. That's already a pretty good sized plant for the size of pot it's in. It eobt be long before you have deficiencies of you don't start feeding soon.

I think its the 14/10 cycle causing the extra stretch as he mentions its happening during the dark. The plant is accumulating the hormones 4 extra hours vs 18/6.

cfls aren't the best choice, but it is workable. you have to have several of them, and you have to have them within 6 inches of the plant. if you're using cfls, i'd probably go with at least 18/6, maybe even 20/4 lights on. flowering under cfls is far from optimal. if you can afford it, i'd look into getting at least one quantum board or one cob for your flowering period, cfls just aren't going to give you anything like the same results.

once he realizes he doesn't have enough light to support it once it doubles in height.

I'm looking at the idea of breed and strain, than light. I've got on in flower right now that's heavy sativa, it's stretch is very similar to the one in the pictures. It also could be my eye, cause if you look at the picture real close, you can see the budbsite development, that's why I say" it wants to flower now" only he can make that choice on when. You can make some good stuff under cfl, cause that's what I've used for a while. Have pictures to prove too...
