Guerilla question...

Hiya
I had an awesome day out in the Autumnal woods yesterday scouting for patches. I was pretty much under a tree canopy but a few times i saw patches of grass, like the pic. I noticed that these grass patches seemed to be where the canopy above was much thinner, letting in more sunlight, which might explain the grass.
If this observation is true, then these grassy patches should make good sites.
What do you think, has anyone else noticed anything similar?

Of paramount importance is that no one will come upon the site during the 4-5 months of time the plants will be there. The plants should get some direct sun, I would say a minimum of 5 hours/day. Don't know how you feel about dropping trees, but if I were you I would head out there with a chain saw. Go out in the morning, at noon and late afternoon to see how the sun traverses the sky and take them down accordingly.

Cheers, yeah good idea to spend some time there and see how much light is coming through. Dont have a chainsaw! And tbh id sooner find another patch than hack down the trees which are kinda nice where they are. My logic is, if theres enough light for grass to grow, then theres enough for weed :)

If you can find a new blowdown, there should be more sunlight coming through. It can also provide some side cover as well. I've grown in trees like this before, and your plants can get tall and lanky. But if it's all you have, give it a shot. Remember the sun will be to the south, so grow on the south side of trees or bushes. If there is any planted trees, when they are 10-15 foot tall is best IMO.

The grass is a good sign. It looks like a nice little clearing. I'd personally I'd plop a few plants down there next season if I found it.
Also the next time you're out there take a look around for any deer stands. Go back around the clearing 20-30 yards all around and comb the place for them.
I've found a similar clearing way out before and decided against it when I found a stand up in a tree.
After that's said and done plop a hidden trail cam out there.
Or drop a dummy wallet with a few bucks in it. Make sure wallet is brightly colored so it's easy to spot.
Or a junker cell phone.
If there's foot traffic people will
A - pick up wallet and take cash.
B - take phone to check for boobies.

Wow I never thought about that. Gotta use these government spies any way we can. Thanks for the info that will more than likely save me miles of walking next year.
Google scares me much worse than the NSA. They are doing their spying for profit.

But anyway. In a far away place called Larry Land, a fellow once started a thread about this sort of thing. It might be help to you.

I wonder what ever happened to that fellow.

Thanks for the input guys, its been helpful! I guess we all have a checklist for guerilla sites but in reality there has to be a compromise somewhere. Theres a few sites like this, yeah the light might not be great but its pretty deep in the bush and i think security has to be priority No. 1. I like the idea of having 3 or 4 sites, with 2 or 3 plants. If one site gets rumbled, no problem and dont use it again. Sites that remain undetected are obviously well hidden so then i could increase the number of plants at the good sites.
Thats my plan anyway, winter is approaching here so i have a long wait!
Cheers guys :)
