Hey Ya'll Going to get clone machine and have run across 2 types, spray cloners that spray the water with submersible pumps and bubblers that continually bubble ;)

Pros-Cons??

I made a DIY bubbler cloner from a plastic shoe box and an aquarium pump and air stone and didnt have much luck.

Thanks Rollitup Folks

You could build a 9 site bubble cloner out of a dark colored bucket/lid, airstone, air pump, 1/4" air line, and some 2" neoprene plugs for under $25.
Get an additional dark colored bucket so you can have a fresh res changeout as simple as putting the lid on the new fresh bucket. Easy peasy....
The easier your system is to maintain correctly, the more likely you are to do it and stay on top of it.

I'm looking at getting and Oxyclone 80 site. I usually DIY everything but I want something that is low profile and can fit onto a shelf. I currently have a HP Aero setup I use for cloning and veg but I don't get the best scucess rates with clones because I use more light than they like for the vegging plants and I have to keep my EC lower than some of the vegging plants care for.
this guy really knows how to build a diy set up

journal has one of the nicest ive ever seen for a DIY

I built mine with bubblers and sprayers. I use a pond filter bag over my aquarium pump so the sprayers don't clog. I had problems with the pump heating the water up at first, but once I increased the reservoir to 68L and put it on a on/off timer it's been working great.
I used a 68L Rubbermaid Roughneck storage bin. 20171119_152521.jpg

exactly what I had to do,
the pump would heat the water, I also added a larger air pump and stone which helps get fresh air thru the chamber for the aero style and that will help keep it cooler if the room isn't hot

another option is to set the reservoir directly on the cement floor, the cement in a room that s not hot

I'm not sure how the sprayer clog with regular water and just doing clones. Mine is just starting as of this weekend, but the plants look fantastic so far. When I put them in, they were all pretty limp and droopy. Within 30-45 .minutes they perked up, and overnight they looked as healthy as could be.
1 bucket
1 pump
1 sprayer
9 netpots
9 foam collars

One more thing I forgot to mention regarding my preference for bubble over sprayer is that the sprayer pump brings up the temp in the cloner quick. Virtually no heat with a bubble cloner.

ive done both diy and have had the same success rates with both.a member on here was talking about a disease or some shit that clones can get from dirty sprayers and warmer temps.being limited on space,i couldnt size up my tub so i tried the bubble set up and like it.

Thanks for all the response, a cloner of 9 or more is over kill for what I need. I like the looks of the Modular Hydro unit but their aireators (sp) are expensive to replace while spray tips are cheap but are used in larger units. Found one spray unit on ebay that had the pump on the outside of bucket to keep temps low. But hi price and really stupid shipping cost.

My veg room stays 72-79 during the year, I know that the size of the rez affects temp in sprayers, but if you run on a timer ie: 15 on 15 off how much would pump heat be a factor?

After my DIY failure I am skeptical of my success trying another ;)

how many tries have you given it? sometimes they die.im a complete noob at cloning and am getting 5 out of 6 cuttings to root.for me,its taking a little over 14 days to show roots.also depends on strains,i believe.i built a small 6 site rig.

Here is my 29 site DIY cloner Not pretty but it works for me
Cost pvc pipe and fittings $15
EZ Clone Sprayer Nozzle $10 but i did buy over 200 of them.
collars and net pots are 25c each
Storage bin $10
Air pump $30 I use the same one to brew my tea
pond pump $40

The top holes are 50mm I bought the hole saw bit off of ebay for $3
20171120_155151.jpg

With collars. Next build will have grommets for the air hose and power
20171120_155612.jpg

I cut the collars in half and the bottoms of of 2" net pots. I found the thick collars didn't work for me.

Hopefully this helps or inspires you or someone else on your next build.

Definitely go with a bubble Cloner! You'll end up with leaks from the lid seams with the sprayers. The bubble cloners work awesome! Bubbles popping on the surface of the water create micro droplets that land on the stems, and keep them moist. One doesn't work faster or better than the other. It's just the leaking that's a huge pain in the ass! Plus, clogging emitters.

In order to do this, you have to make holes in the res and plumb both the inlet and outlet of the pump and thats just more spots to potentially leak. Plus thats more work and $$$ to just do the same thing a bubble cloner does naturally without the special plumbing or heat issues.

Mine is really similar, just scaled way down and less parts. 20171120_190448.jpg
