Why do cops hate pot?

So I was listening to the NORML podcast the other day and they were talking about a decriminalization bill in some city that was about to go up for a vote. The chief of police and every single cop related organization came out against the measure using the typical "for the children" and "gateway" arguments.

My question is why do cops in general hate weed so much? I googled "cop forum", registered for the first on and asked. They thought I was there to debate weather pot should be legal and labeled me a "doper" and banned me. I tried on another forum and they were a lot more open but the reasons they gave were all laughable to anyone who has ever tried pot. They ranked the level of intoxication of being shitfaced drunk with smoking a few bowls. Anyone who has ever done both knows that this is really and apples and oranges comparison. I mean most people can drive mildly stoned just fine, then again get someone mildly drunk and they can't even maintain their lane.

For the most part the second forum was pretty easy going and not wanting to be an asshole and get into a legalization debate I really let a lot of the arguments that could be solved by firing up a J slide.

But I will phrase this to you guys, why do you think cops for the most part are so against any type of pot related legal reform? I mean the paperwork involved with taking a stoner to jail over a dime bag is huge compared to just taking the dime, writing a ticket and both of you being on your way.

and thats what ive been saying caliboy. i love weed but it being legal won't happen anytime soon.

Cop have to keep busting weed and make that quota. If mj got legalized bye bye to cops feeding their families.

I got cop friends so I wouldn't want them out on the streets, plus these are stand up cops I've known for a while.

decriminalization is the best idea in the world

Around here the cops don't really hate weed. Around here they're all about meth. If they catch you with THAT shit, you're fucked.

But buds, lol, when I get pulled over and I have weed on me, I just let them know, I usually don't even bother trying to hide it. I've handed over an oz and my pipe and the cop just gave them right back.

I remember once we were taking bong loads in the car and we got rolled on. Almost everyone in the car had weed on them, and the bong was mine, brandnew. We all got to keep our buds and I kept my bong. Cop asked us to go smoke in our homes.

So not all cops hate weed.

MOST police agencies (especially in areas already decriminalized) are for decriminalization of pot...

The reasoning is that the less time that have to spend busting ppl for such a non violent and non threatening crime (and the paper work involved) the more time the organization has to devote to more pressing issues...

MoSt cops see busting some kid over a dime bag and a pipe a waste of recourses... Unfortunately MOST is not ALL and when the majority of the organization (or the head) feels opposite you are looked bad upon if you go against the flow...

Like most things that do not make any REAL sense it comes down to a power struggle and the REAL issue gets pushed into the background...

Any hoo nuf said... =]

If he looks the other way cause "he Is your friend " then he is crooked and breaking the law , If he bust's you Is he still your friend ?
No cop is stand Up
They are all fucked up .. every last one of them, they think they are "BETTER Than EVERYONE" Never met a cop I can say I trusted or even Liked ... They are all crooked

What if they let you go and you don't know them at all? That seems like a pretty decent cop to me...

generalizing cops is almost like generalizing those who use marijuana. just let the cop who hate's pot hate it and the cop who hates it for his job do the same..being a cop sucks

The funny thing is that while that makes sense most police are against decrim or legalization. Most of them feel they are the "mighty defenders" keeping us simple civilians from the absolute horrors of pot.

a stand up cop is the one who looks the other way and I've know for a while just like the original post said. You don't know cops that smoke weed and do other shit that I won't mention.
You just don't know cops then, most of them are bitches but not all.

Can I ask you a question?
Why are they all dicks? For doing their job(for the most part). When you see them catch a real bad guy they the best but when weed comes into play everyone hates it.

You fault for getting caught, just like it is mines when i do.

Well I'm gone before this turns into some shit.

Ive never had a cop catch me doing something illegal and say ...Son go home now and never do this again.. ..........I was a bad kid .. but Im all grown now :-)

Is it really just cuz I have tits? I mean, the guys get let go too...

Is it so hard to believe there are ok cops out there? Maybe they're all in Cali. This is why I'm scared to ever move to another state.

Doesn't that make some sense? I mean, they don't KNOW you. You could be a crazy mother fucker who's wanted for murder with a gun under the seat ready to blow them the fuck away because you're not GOING back to prison!

I mean, realistically, how are they supposed to know you're cool? Because you act cool? Most people try to act cool around cops, so that doesn't tell them much.
