In my opinion when legal shops open up. To start with, all bottom teir consumers, the people that have somebody else buy them a dime or eighth and it usually comes back short or crumbs will all flock to buy wal mart weed. Depending on the quality they are used too they will either be happy or not. This will at least temporarily affect the small farmers profit. As for slightly bigger farmers it may be different because alot of them sell pounds that end up out of state. They will slowly be affected as other states legalize. I do think as everything evens out small farmers growing a high quality product will actual be able to charge more. I just doubt they will be able to do it legally.

Hey guys. I have friends on both sides of this thing. Several folks I know growing rec on the West Coast are having a hell of a time with all the permits, taxes and fees. And prices have fallen off a cliff. Units of Cali outdoor are going for $700 in lots of 100 or greater. They are having to scramble to make a living. Many are getting into selling clones to help prop up their falling incomes. Some are courting capital and going into it big. Four crops a year big, with 50-75% of all flower, clones, seeds and extract sales going to the growers, and 25-50% going to the paper man. Others are branching out into boomers {mushrooms} and other crops.
I also know smokers in Colorado who love being able to buy from shops and not have to deal with a dealer anymore. They pay the extra and go on with their day. These are professionals who's time is worth more than the few bucks saved by buying from a grower or dealer.

Another thought on the un-intended side effects of legal rec grows. Thefts in those states have gone up big time. When everyone can grow in their yard, sometimes they forget that folks steal things that are cash dense. And money does grow on trees. I know folks who have grown a few medical plants outdoors for years, but were forced to go indoors due to being ripped off since the new laws took effect.

Yup..that stuff has been making its way here too. Know a few folks that got a connect out that way. No sense in growing if you can grab units at 9 and off them here for over 2. Good eye can always spot the product ..most of the time.
