coco coir and crazy high ppm run off

hi growers. so i have tried to google my questions but not many clear answers. is it normal for coca to have such a high run off or did i mess up by not flooding my coca until the water ran clear. 750ppm in yet 4000 ish coming out. using run to wast

ph is fine and stays the same feed 6.4 in and 6.4 comes out

the run off looks like a very dark tea when nutrient i feel is pretty much clear

plants look fine so not too worried about it but unsure if it will even out over time or get worse

I’m not a coco expert but sounds like you didn’t let it rinse good. Hydro corn will do the same run out like mud water

i prefer dwc but cant since rot is t hard to manage i summer even using preventative pus air pumps are annoying
when you say Hydro corn do you mean them expanded clay balls if so i have used them many times in the past. super easy to wash that stuff good for re using to
coca is new to me

Yah the clay balls, I have three rooms one of which runs my rdwc setup. How was it hard to manage for you temperature of the water? It’s the first wash that takes time before the water runs clear for them as well. I’ve also used these for several several runs.

summer is stupid hot in my house crappy installation even with air con and i believe the air pumps push hot air in the the bucket

Did u wash rise your coco before use and if its a expansion block u need to wash good and use a mite wash most them blocks are made in India or Asian countries full of bugs

hi rob .no i didn't as its my 1st time using the compressed blocks all i did was re hydrate with 6.4 ph water. are you a coca user. have you made this mistake before. pretty much my question is should i bother flushing or is it already to late and i should just roll with it

I have used coco for bout 7 years the bag stuff I still wash two options u could just flush the plant till u see clear water from pots 2nd repot in fresh washed coco

i was considering doing the 1st but read one post saying not to flush with water as it removes carbon or something like that. do you have any thought on this

i believe the same as id imagine the nutrients have all it needs. ok well i know how i should of washed it to start with. i will flush as i dont feel 4000ppm run off is not good. i haven't seen any tip burn but i am expecting it at that rate. thanks for your info

I have made that mistake before, cheaping out on dehydrated block. It needs rinsing till its clear which takes gallons and gallons of water. Otherwise its very high in K and Na which will cause you problems, the Na more than the K.

Easiest way I found is to put it in a pillow case and run a hose or shower through it for about 10mins, if you smash it about its a bit quicker.

Since your already growing in it, flush it, come back an hour later and flush it again and measure the EC run off.
Good coco that's pre buffered straight out of the bag still contains a lot of K and will release it over time, that's why most coco specific nutrients are lower in K. Normally I wouldn't recommend measuring the EC of run off due to this reason, but that block stuff needs a serious flush.

You might not notice an issue in veg, but in flower you will probably end up with a lock out due to salt build up.

Oh and some of that coco block you find online isn't ment for growing at all, its made for lizard bed material. There is too much of the rough chunky coco, the ratio is wrong. Good growing coco is a balanced mix of three grades of coco coir, all of which have slightly different properties. Water retention, aeriation ect and the CEC is different for each grade. Although I don't remember which grade holds onto calcium and magnesium the most.

Not to say you cant grow with it, but the chance of problems is higher.

I would flush the shit out of it with 1/4 strength nutes - pH'd to 6.0. I'm not a fan of using plain water, ever.

well thanks for all the good information growers. so noob mistake and i will know better next grow thanks again . so deiced lets do both. yesterday flushed with just water about 2L per pot always keep my ph at 6.4 and for the next several watering i intend on doing 1/4 straight feds with 30% run off. i normally aim for 5/10% run off on normal feeds at 1/2 strength. i never feed full strength anymore. so ill see what happens. one thing i noticed with in 3 hours of 1st flush was tips of leafs dropping dew to over watering but what was expected. i noted 2000 ish ppm drop after water flush. i use TDS meter on 500 conversion i believe. the plants look good i think though. on week 4 of veg

no but some minerals salts what ever you want to call them will be harder to uptake by the plant at 6.4. the rangers are 5,5 to 7 is where the plant is capable of uptake
