Stealth Storage Cabinets on Wheels - CF Grow 200w COB LEDs, Hydro DWC Perpetual

Consider this a build thread that may or may not turn into a grow thread.

I've purchased 3 cabinets to replace my two 3x3 tents to improve stealth. I know the yield won't match but I hope to tweak this design over time and purchase additional lights once I know what my current lamps are capable of. I would like to eventually build my own COB lighting but I decided on the CF Grow lamps for now, I dig the style of the CF Grow lights and I am going for the clean/white look.

This will be a perpetual grow with this plan in mind, initially, at least:
Cabinet #1 = Strain A, 2 plants scrogged
Cabinet #2 = Strain B, 2 plants scrogged
Cabinet #3 = Mothers for Strain A+B+C and a cloning unit
Other Stealth Area w/ 600w MH/HPS = Strain C

Strains: Northern Lights, Cannatonic, Jack Herer(may throw this out and replace with Critical Mass CBD).

...and some other goodies. Sound deadening mats, temp controlled fans, etc.

So far I have... assembled cabinet #1, installed sound deadening mats, mounted lights, mounted exhaust fan and carbon filter (no pic of filter yet), started passive intake opening, installed electrical raceway, installed inside walls using rivets and washers, put about 5 coats of flat white paint on the walls. I broke the bottom shelf and decided to use dry erase board material instead. Switched out totes due the large size lid on the first tote I tried, I would've had to maintain a water level very close to the top of the tote with the thick lid that it had.

I am working on installing a tote access hole, mounting the dry erase board in place on top of the tote, and installing additional weather stripping and light proofing. I may order another set of fans for the exhaust, but I am still testing to see what temps I can get.

I'll update this thread with my progress but feel free to chime in if you have questions/comments. Keep the peace. Thanks.

Those carbon filter things don't really take care of the smells, you might wanna build a DIY filter the carbon in granular form.

Ah, shoot... really? This is what I am using:

Isn't this the same thing basically? Designed for range hoods, air purifiers, and furnaces.

Yes but it's filled with active carbon pellets. I got mine for £6 for 2 after I shopped around. Still working well after 10 months use.

Maybe I will build my own with activated carbon pellets then. I'm not finding a filter of the size I need.

I'll be coming back to the first cabinet but I need to get my mother cabinet ready for my seedlings and clones that are growing too big for their space.

The first cabinet has been very labor intensive so far and I am not satisfied at all with the design or my craftsmanship (lol). So I am going a different route on this cabinet. Painting the interior white, only installing sound deadening mat near vibrations, and using the shelves that came with the cabinet.

Painted the inside white already, about 6 coats later...

The mother cabinet is coming along, calling it quits for the night though since I am missing a few parts. Tomorrow (hopefully) I will be moving the mothers(seedlings) into this cabinet along with my DWC cloner and light for the bottom.

Very clean setup. I like the size of those cabinets for the price. I've been working on a used cabinet slightly smaller than yours that shows wear and tear to increase stealth. It blends better for me than to have brand new but would upgrade to those once I'm ready. Keep up the good work.

Any updates on how well the white painted cab contain vibratons?

My goal was to make everything super clean, however now I am just focusing on it being functional lol. I already have to remove the dry erase board in my 1st cabinet because it is being ruined from moisture, which is my own fault... live and learn.

I hear ya, I imagine I may get questions eventually on these cabinets but I do plan on cuddling them up nicely around a bunch of other junk LOL. Stealth was the plan all along, so I will do what I can.

I haven't posted any updates because I am testing the waters still with these cabinets. Temps maintain without a problem but my ambient temp is around 58-63F so that doesn't say much. I destroyed a lot of roots transplanting from larger rockwool cubes, like an idiot, so I have to wait a week or so before my mother plants come back to life. Also the lights seem to be way too powerful for cabinet #1, so I have dialed it back to 50% power until the plants get bigger.

The only thing causing vibration in cabinet #2 is the air pump (not pictured). I've dialed that back too in order to decrease the vibration, its more than enough oxygenation for that tote anyway. I plan on putting down the sound deadening mat under the pump and dialing it back up. I have several air pumps and even the exact models don't sound exactly the same. I've found that some have a rattle vibration, cheap build quality if you ask me. I'll let you know how it goes.

I appreciate the update and feedback. I just got the brains of my cabinet today. So I'll be sharing some things I'm doing. I hear you on stealth. I need mine to look like a shitty cabinet filled with gardening stuff with minimal sound and NO smell.

I really like how your passive intake vent is in the floor, I'm going the same route. I actually just spent an hour in Lowe's for ideas for intake vent that won't leak light. I grabbed a couple items.

I'm def subbed. I wonder how well those cpu fans will do in that size of a cab. I end up getting a 6" fan with a massive carbon scrubber. Way bigger than I thought for a cab my size but I figure when I upgrade cab size I won't have to get all new equipment.

I'm sure with your deadening mat it'll help with your pump vibes. Things to consider if it doesn't work as planned, hanging the pump or making some rubber feet. Someone posted a DIY just spray PAM or w/e you have in a small plastic tubberware, fill it half inch or so with silicone. Let dry and scoop it out. Homemade rubber feet to decrease vibes.

Thinking about it... I probably should've bought a used cabinet or something, but I'm so fucking picky, lol. Definitely share away man, I am always curious what others are doing in their cabs. I've honestly found it to be a huge pain in the ass so far. Shopping for the perfect part is not easy and I usually end up settling for less just to get these grows going. I did something similar with the carbon filter/fan. I originally ordered a 6" fan with a stealth filter and it took up waaaay too much room so I sent them back. I am still brainstorming ideas for my custom carbon filter design. I'm not worried about smell right now though since they are just in veg.

About the air pumps... they are louder than I would like them to be so I want to build something to help the noise. I am thinking of making a small enclosure with areas for air, hoses, and power cord to feed through and then lining it with the sound deadening mat. Could try your feet idea but these pumps seem to have pretty big feet on them already, with a lot of rubber, I am not sure that it would help. I've made feet for electronics by placing large dots of glue with a glue gun on the bottoms, I find them to have a nice grip but not sure about noise.. might be worth a shot?

Here are the Northern Lights clones I have been experimenting with in cabinet #1. They are finally getting happy. I have the light at 50% right now because it was way too much for how young they were. They have really taken off the last few days.

Nutes being used:
Botanicare Hydroguard
GH FloraMicro
GH FloraBloom
AN PH Up/Down (I quit using the Advanced Nutrients line a couple grows ago but I use this PH up/down because it seems to be highly buffered and concentrated. I rarely need to correct my PH when I use this stuff, it was a great find and recommended to me at a local hydro store. Therefore, I highly recommend it over the GH stuff.)

I found a pretty neat DIY carbon scrubber a while back I've been thinking about making for my cab. They took a cone shaped car air filter and filled it with carbon. Then took a pvc pipe that fit the end of the filter and put pantyhose over the end shoved it in the filter and clamped it on. Cheap compact and effective carbon filter.

Damn, that is a good idea! I like it. However, I've already purchased these ACInfinity cabinet fans so that won't work for me. I was actually just brainstorming about this when you posted... I was going to pick up some plexiglas and cut it to make a rectangular frame to go around the outside of my fans, then wrap it in black pantyhose and fill with carbon pellets.

This same pic is above, but this is what I am dealing with...

Another compact filter would be Foothill Filters on eBay. They make a carbon filter with a fan built into the filter. Their 6x14 would work great in a cabinet. https://m.ebay.com/itm/ELIMINATES-UNWANTED-ODORS-6-X-14-CARBON-FILTER-W-130-CFM-FAN-REFILLABLE/161153827013?hash=item25858440c5:g:CdoAAOxy3zNShxZ-
I have their 8x14 in a 3x3 and it does a great job. The 8x14 is not quiet but probably wouldn't be bad with a muffler.
Wow, that seems a little expensive. I suppose though, if it works for your build then that is all that matters. Interesting design...
