Seedling growing slow and has brown spots

image.jpg image.jpg I have been growing my seedling for a little more than two weeks now and it seems to be growing slow with brown spots on it. I have it about an inch away from two 5000K cfls and I got my soil from a flower pot I had outside. I could tell there were bugs in the soil but didnt do anything about it. I would just like too know if it's fine or if anyone knows what is wrong or has advice.

When I first started I had seedlings like that bc my ph was 8.6 and it eventually killed everything, that was 5 yrs ago. I'd say ph is off for sure and is probably leave a cfl 5 or 6 inches away, but if u don't know about ph u better learn fast, some ppl get lucky and they're waters perfect, also too many dissolved solids in well water will screw ya too

I ran cfls a couple inches just to allow space while growing since I couldn’t monitor it all the time, and yes I was asking what they are.

I don't know what the ph is and the soil I don't know either so it may have added nutrients. The temp is mostly in the 60s but as you can see I kept my light close. I had it at a 18/6 light cycle. I don't have nothing fancy to check ph but ill probably get better soil when I transplant it. Do u think it will die though.

Yeah if you aren’t ph’ing your water you won’t ever make it past this point in the grow cycle.

I was going to say it was probably due to cold along with the lights being too close. I honestly just had a similar scenario with my seedlings. They were doing fine while the weather was warmer but then we got hit with a cold snap and I didn't address the cold night temps. Within a week I had stinted the girls and they started to spot. I was running the veg light 18/6 but that allowed the temps to drop too low so now I just leave the light on and temps are more like 68-72F instead of the 58-64F and plants are looking better.

Unless you're using tap water that is higher ph 7.0 or higher and you haven't been over fertilizing you should be ok there. Also if it is cool you'll want to water less than normal.

Just my 2 cents.

The soil looks good visually but if it was from a pot outside it may be lacking nutrients. It should be fed some type of grow nutrients if you are going to leave it in that pot. It looks like it needs nitrogen which is in grow type nutrients.

You can also transplant into some quality soil and it will likely bounce back. If you transplant to a quality soil you would only need to feed it water but if you stay in that pot in that soil it is probably hungry for nutes.

So should I use tap water cause I was just using bottled water or is there a good water for it

Would miracle grow potting mix be good for transplanting. Also would you say I should keep it away from my lights

You would be better of with fox farm ocean forest as a new grower if you can find it.
Miracle Grow without time release nutes can be used but you would be better off with the fox farm the 1st grow.

Bottled water should be fine as long as it isn't distilled water. I would only recommend using tap water if you know what the PPM and ph are of the water.

Buy this and stop worrying about your water. I use the same ones and they are more than good enough for your needs.

Ph is the most important thing growing indoors, I don't use soil, I use pro mix, but for soil if your ph isn't between 6 and 7 for soil, they will definately die. Ph meters are 10$ on eBay and some ph up and down depending on what u need

Nutrients generally drop your ph as well, just get a meter for 10$. My water is 8.6 right from tap and I run it through a carbon filter system and it drops to 8.2 and then after I add my nutrients it drops to 7.5 which is way off what I need for soilless mix soilless and hydro ph needs to be 5.5 - 6.5 or the plants will lockout nutrients
