Mindless “Cal-Mag” usage

I picked up a couple gallons at my local walmart a couple weeks ago and it had higher ppm than water straight from my well. I was pretty bummed. Although it could have been over due for a new filter. Next time, I will take a plastic cup and my ppm meter before o fill up the jugs. Lol

My grows are done EXCLUSIVELY with Miracle Grow products.

Regular, cheap $7.50 per bag MG Potting Soil.
Regular Formula MG Fertilizer (I'm still on a 10 dollar box I bought three years ago. It's about half gone.)
Tomato Formula MG Fertilizer for later flowering stage (Ditto above, but it's about 3/4ths gone.)
Bag of Lime 5 bucks.
Bag of perlite for about 6 bucks.
RO water from my 5 stage RO/DI unit originally bought for aquariums I used to run years ago.

Add that I pay about 5 bucks per seed for my Feminized White Widow from ILGM (I've still got 6 left of the last 10 I ordered - I grow two at a time)

A single 600 watt MH/HPS lamp with dimmable ballast.

That's it, folks. That's all there is to it. I spend roughly 17 dollars per grow on seeds, soil, and nutrients. My only other cost is the power to run the light and the water bill.

I average between 4 and 6 ounces per plant.

Done.

Hmmmmmm... My clones are free (ex labor), 5 gallons of Tupur costs $7, 3¢/gal for nutrient solution times half a gallon a day on average is under $4 for a 120 day veg and bloom cycle... So not counting power I'm paying pennies for each of the 26oz grown;


But of course power for lighting and HVAC is the elephant in the room of cost.

It has to do with the particle charge of your water. When you produce ro water and strip every particle from the H2O molecule, its electrons becomes negatively charge. Adding a little calmag back to the water gives it a positive charge. Why is this important? Water is the universal solvent, it allows the transport of everything in plants, and or bodies, on a cellular level. If we watered with pure ro water all the time, the negatively charge water molecules with latch onto the first thing it come in contact with and create a bond that does no allow the H2O to pick up another molecule of whatever to be released into the plant. There is a lot going on in your soil, and air for that matter. Have you ever heard how lighting storms increase the amount of nitrogen in the soil, it has to do with the same type of molecular bonds and electron charges that effect nutrient exchange with H20 and our soil.

Not to sound flippant, but every plant grown outdoors and not topped to stay low is an example of vertical growing. After all, they grow tall and the sun is actually not overhead for most of the day.

It was this realisation that led me to investigate vertical grows in the first place.

I'm working on a 'vertical growing' system for greenhouse use. I think it could be highly productive.

Does MG potting mix require additional lime? How much to add?

mine is 500-600ppm

for preloading nuets in new pots, I use tap for the water, only for the first few waterings

Why not just water one with RO only from the start and find out.
If you understand amendments gypsum in the soil at the start would make a big difference and amending with a small amount along the way would help. If you spot a calcium deficiency it can be stopped quickly with the addition of cal mag. If you spot a magnesium deficiency it can be stopped quickly with Epsom salt.
For growers that do not understand amendments or can not spot the early signs of a calcium or a magnesium deficiency then it is best to be safe and add the standard tsp per gallon.

They lived under a 96 watt t5 until a 8 days ago I hung an electric sky 300 dimmed to 50 percent 3.5 ft above canopy. 3-4 days post hanging light showing these symptoms which look like mag to me with maybe light stress?
Transplanted 3 days before adding new light coast of Maine stonington mix. Ph 6.3-6.7
They were given ewc and mol tea for transplant and I’ve used pro tech aloe powder coconut powder and super thrive up to this point.
I am using ro water w/out ca mg.
I hit them with 350 ppm camg last watering today’s two days post that watering and nothing has progressed.
First three or four photos are of the problem in question 2-3 days ago. Last photos were taken this morning.
