When did you read the reviews? After a flower?
Now this is even better. Did you harvest, find a bunch of seeds then look up the reviews?
The thing you fail to realize that there is a difference in full on herms from the beginning of flower and one that throws a few nanners in late flowering.
The difference is that the ones that show both sexes from the beginning will be full if seed.
The one that throws a few nanners late will have way less seed. Sometimes just a few seeds in a whole plant. The pollen is not as viable.
So if it was the full on herm you would've had to noticed it as I doubt anyone never checks a plant during the whole flowering phase.
If the ones you grew had a lot of seed there may have been a male somewhere close.
I'm confused. I just don't get how if could be missed if it was heavily seeded.
I'm dying, I just keep picture Al Bundy laying into this guy. Kudos
While I do think there is a possibility that OP got "herm prone" beans, the gambling side of me thinks it's more likely his own doing.
Like you said, he bought the seeds with no research and then grew them in his main garden and obviously didn't even do basic inspections of his product to prevent this kind of scenario. That is why he got seeds and is now pissed.
An experienced grower knows if you grow polyhybrids from seed you will have variation and a higher likelihood of undesirable traits, i.e. hermies, no matter whom the breeder. The breeder can test seeds and report results but it impossible not to have wild variations with polys. The breeder would have to work the strain further to see stability and these days that just doesn't happen, with few exceptions.
An experience grower would also know to run seeds in quarantine gardens for their first run so you know what to expect from your plants before you put them in a producing field. If you actually have a stabilized strain in seed form you can get away with always running seeds in your main garden with little problems of variation.
Over my years of growing I've grown large 100+ plant flood trays indoors, multiple outdoor grows of 15+ plants, I've always got something going in a tent for head and no matter how I grow I find time to inspect my shit.
If you don't you're lazy and your failures are your own. Calicon may have supplied the dud but he let the dud become a problem.
