Hey, so i have a quick question.

Running a 600w hps alone i got a temperature of 77F

But i got a pair of 250w dual spectrum cfl lights i want to use to get light down to the bottom part of the canopy, but when i turn them on the temperature rises to 84.2-85F

Ive read that 85 degrees f is the max right, but that around 77 is perfect. So my question here is what will be the best option here, 600w hps at 77F or 600w hps + 500w cfl at 85F

What's your setup in your room? Fans? Exhaust fans? What kind of hps fixture is it?

Honestly id stick with the 600w at 77. The higher heat you go the more problems you can run into, at 85(god forbid) you get spider mites? There gonna orgy out and destroy your crop. You could get heat stress etc etc. Maybe try lst, topping, or scrog and still get lower on the canopy. Honestly don't think you're gonna notice 100w at that much warmer of a temp, and then like I said there's the upper risk factor of being hot.

penetration is whats its about

I'd stick with the 600w

or improve venting

Use various training techniques to get the most out of your 600w so your light penetration is better, lollipop if you need to so nothing is been wasted below the canopy.

If you really want to use some side lighting then get something more efficient than the cfl. Some Samsung strips at much lower wattage will do a better job and have less heat.

Personally though I would just go with not over crowding your space and managing your canopy better.

^^ This is the main reason. If you can use a more efficient light source other than the CFL's you may be in better shape, but it sounds like you m ay also need to work out your ventilation issues.
