A little off topic but i saved some carefully collected male pollen from a very stinky slee skunk male.

And ive had it in the fridge with rice for a few months now do you think its still viable?
Im still going to try here in a few weeks when my ladys are ready but figured I'd ask

All you can do is try. Possibly still good if it was really dry. It stores longer in the freezer. Over a year.

Im sure we will get along better at some point but pollen dies when it dries im pretty sure:

Pollen is generally very fragile short lived. It is best kept cold and should last a couple months.
There are examples of cannabis pollen remaining viable for more than a decade if frozen.

Look it up or experience it if you aren't sure and we'll get along fine. You are supposed to use rice or dessicator crystals before storing pollen adn it can last well over a year in the freezer although a little degraded it still works up to 2 years, for me at least.

I have seeds forming at this moment from pollen almost 6 years old, so I
will know soon if I get viable seed. A long lost former associate reached out when
he heard what I am up to and donated some pollen. He says that it is from a
spectacular S.A. sativa. I found a pretty lady from my bag seed grow that will do
for the try. It don't cost a thing.

Id read somewhere that breeders mix their male pollen with flour to make it dry and the thin the pollen out?

I stored it in a kids medicine cup on top of a bed of rice in an airtight container.

Who knows it was just a super stank male so i figured what the hell

Freeze it next time. No need for rice as long as its really dry.

Also whats a better target time to polinate a branch. Earlier when hairs pop or wait till like mid flower?

I like to pollinate around week 3 of flower.

I would go ahead and freeze it. I have some about 8 months old I just used.

I dont know how well slee skunk will blend with what i got going in the room. But it was the stinkiest out of all the males i had at the time.

Amnesia haze (not really a haze so far though lmao)
And some random seeds from a grower i know
2 citrisey smelling and 2 REAL (too)squat berry melon what evers lol i think they came from his "purple" lol. Ill have to ask if he knows his genetics.

Only pollenated 5 days ago. It's too soon to know, but there might
be a couple of little pregnant bumps forming. I tend not to count any
unhatched chickens.

Far to early yet although if you mark the spot you can keep checking.

Sometimes i have fertilized a single flower to watch the difference between that and its unfertilized neighbour, if i remember correctly the fertilized pistils redden and receded earlier than unfertilized ones but it has been a while since i chucked some pollen.

I also thought that was a sign of successful fertilization. Was the pistil dries up (not needed anymore after )

But i thought it looked different then a pistil that just turns color

Yes, only if it does it before its time like the ones around it are still young and white, sometimes you can spot it and then look for the nana that caused it.

I spent too much time watching my plants grow and all the small things, i wouldnt say this is guaranteed just that sometimes certain observations can be made
