Nope.
Most people recommend lining your room with lead.
i could be wrong about the thickness but it's something like half an inch thick.

Go to your local scrapyard and see if they have sheets of it.

But apart from that, most police won't bother with a small grow.

Yeah, I use it on my ceilings, for fly over IRDA, it's a taboo subject, because legally the police aren't allowed to look for heat signatures inside your home, it protected by the 4th amendment. "Probable cause"

Aside from that, if you only have two lights or so, no worries.

I run 6 lights so I thought it'd be a good idea to "cover up"

It wouldn't do any good on the walls, IRDA is used by helicopters.

It's not paranoia, it a precaution, and again, if you aren't pulling down pounds and pounds of a lot of lights no worries.

But it does keep my head cool knowing that even if I'm "flown over" they won't see shit, soothing calming feeling.

Lead is extremely expensive in roll form, compared to an average polyshield ir/uv blocker. I got mine when it first came out, paid a shitload for it, but that was right after the patriot act happened, and we lost all our privacy.

It'd be interesting to see if there are any DIY tutorials out there on how to make your own Lead sheets.

I assume it wouldnt be too hard.. oven, pans, wooden frame and plastic sheeting..

basically the question was does it work...is it worth the money...which you basically answered for me...i have read so many threads and posts on here i try to read between the lines to form my opinion...a lot of times the responses are limited or biased so i try to get an opinion without a lot of info sometimes...your responses are straight forward and informative...while you certainly have opinions they arent biased to my way of thinking...i try to read before i ask since the answer is usually here somewhere anyway...sometimes i just want to verify my opinions...thanks

Idk if you can still buy lead in bars. Used to be able to use it for auto body repair, but that was a long time ago. And due to the health hazards, I don't think it's a very good idea.

Today there are still lead water piping systems all over the world. Your water will travel through at least a few meters of lead piping before it gets to your tap..

Lead isn't that bad, well it is bad, but handling it isn't going to give you lead poisoning, look at how much the Romans used lol.

But you know how the government is about restricting and regulating anything they deem a hazard to our health. There was someone that mentioned you could buy insulation sheets made for the exterior of your house (under siding) that had a lead sheet in it. I think he said home depot carried it... Idk, it's probably expensive.

I'm sure most scrap yards will sell it cheap-ish with no questions asked.

plumbers use it (mixed with tin I think) for soldering pipes.

I might go check out my local scrapyard, see how much the stuff is.

Buying rates are 30 cents per pound around here, no info on selling though, mostly sold in bulk to factories.

You'd probably not want to put that much effort into making sheets.

Ir blocker isn't that expensive, compared to the amount of labor you're talking about.
