Light for clone

I am purchasing a clone to start a small DWC grow in a 2x2.5ft grow tent. I understand that a clone does not need strong light until it develops roots. The link below shows some lights I already have, but each is 12w rather than 15w. Would one or two of these be enough for my clone for the first couple days or should I give it something stronger? Thanks in advance.

IMO I think that you should use as many as you have and to keep them within a few inches of your plant. I've heard it's better to cluster the lights instead of spacing them evenly around the plant as these types of plants prefer a strong single source of light rather than a diffusion. Especially since you're using LEDs there will be less heat issues to worry about so I'd just focus on giving the plants as much light as you can. Some general specs I've heard to aim for (which may or may not apply across all different types of lights) are 100watts per plant OR 10 000 lumens.

Ideally your light spectrum would be 6500K for vegging out the clone (I notice the link was for bulbs with a 3000K spectrum which is closer to that used for flowering). Then again if your tent is only around 2ft you'd probably want to start on a flowering cycle from the get-go so you don't run out of space as the plant grows.

Might be a bit more info than you asked for :)

Rooting the cutting doesn't take much light but if you're buying a clone it should be already rooted starting to grow.

Totally agreed

Just indirect light would do the job.

If the clone just comes with a nice rootsystem give plenty of light as long as it dont burn it.
Lil clones only have lil water in them so prevent excessive heat etc.

I'd keep them at least 6" away, I've seen what happens if a leaf gets close enough to touch a working LED so if you are too close and there's a spurt of growth then the plant won't be so happy...

The other plant I have going, the Acapulco mentioned elsewhere, was under a single 6500K 14W LED replacement at first and she had no issues, imo, with that amount of light, happily grew with a nice thick stem until I changed to my new panel yesterday, but more light would probably have been better over the last two weeks or so as she did kinda jump a bit in height over that period.

A dome is a good idea if it’s a new clone. They like high humidity. Around 70 to 80% is good.
