how to divide a room?

My grow area I'm planning is about 7'x11'

I'm going to have a area to veg, a shelf set up for clones/seedlings, and another area to flower.

Should I allot more space for budding than vegging? Or should it be 50/50.

you're gonna need more room for flowering, as they get bigger

i'd say 60/40, 60 flowering 40 veg.

buds and flowers smell more than the veggy stuffs. But your not only venting smell but heat and fresh air also. Don't forget you can't grow if you hold your breath. You need fresh air.

I'm just going through this process myself (10'x6'). I've divided the room 50/50.

I'm working through the ventilation details right now. I have a single exhaust to the outside. I'm going to put together two different ventilation systems (1 for each room) and have them vent through the single exhaust.

Some people have suggested perhaps moving air from the vegging room into the flowering room, with the flowering room having a carbon filter and exhausting outside. There have also been some suggestions for the opposite flow, but vegging to flowering makes a bit more sense to me.

Plants are definitely smelly while budding, but depending on the strain can be quite aromatic in the vegetative phase as well. I just tried growing some early skunk indoors and I had to move the plants to the garage during vegging because of the smell.

As has been said to me numerous times, if you're able to afford it, do it right. Consensus seems to be 2 vent systems.

Ya I agree. About the money, I'm going to be dropping it and building it gradually. I wish I could have all ofthe budget now. At this point I want good air/vent system. So having 2 for each area as ooposed to 2 for the whole room is more cost effective for me. I'm just goign to start out having 1 system to flush air out branched 3 ways, and 1 sucking fresh air in, again branched 3 ways. Down the road, when I want to add my C02 and other things, then I can add a second system for the flowering room, because by that time, I will want to get more serious with dialing in climate indepenantly from the vegging room.

I have a room i need to split myself and the easiest way i have come up with to get it done is to use panda plastic. One of those stick on tarp zippers would make for a great door but mine will simply rolled up and down from the ceiling as needed. It's cheap and it works. If i had afew more bucks laying around i would probably just get some foil backed insulation and use that to divide the space but i'm broke and cheap.

Right now I'm playing around in the room doing final measurements and planing. I have my electric panel being over hauled next week.

The prob I'm having is planing how much space do I need to walk around things. I have plenty of room to make a 6 x 6 area for the flowering room; however, I won't be able to utilize that foot print because I have to be able to reach the plants for service.

If anyone out there is doing a SOG, can you tell be please what your footprint area is for your 4 stages of flowering and how much space you have (include also how you move around to access the plants)

The reason I'm starting to freak out a bit, is that initial, I was planing for a 6x6 are for flowering and getting a 1000W light. But now that my actual footprint area of the flowering stage is most likely going to be 4x4 or 4x5 tops, then it seems like now I'll have to go down to a 450 or 600 watt light or something.

Any feed back please on this?

for a 7' by 11' vedge/flower space (2) 600w HPS would be adequate, but (2) 1000w HPS would be excellent.

if at all possible, find another place to do the clone/vedge chamber. Somewhere that you could have like 2 shelves with each shelf having (3) 4' Flour. fixtures and about 2 1/2 feet of vertical grow for each shelf.

if a separate room/area just isn't possible... then i'd say only close off enough room to build those two shelves... with room to stand in front of them... directly behind you put a wall/door leading the rest of the room which will be used for flowering. So, like, 7' by 3' for clone/vedge shelves... and that leaves 7'by 8ish for the vedge/flower chamber. For which, (1) 1000w HPS would deffinitely be adequate.

I guess what it boils down to is:
If a 1000W is the correct listing on the chart for a 8x8 grow area. Do I still want to use this light if my growing table is actually only 6x6?

Flamdrags-A 1000W is maxxed out at about a 5x5 area... As they flower, you will need room for growth.

Start with a 3x3 area at the beginning of flower, and by week 3 they should be taking up 5x5. At 6x6 the plants on the outside won't do as well as those directly under the light. Ideally I'd do a 4x8 grow under 2 600W Hps.

It's easy to reach in for watering, and you can move them around for grooming/maintence. I did an 8x8 area with 4 600W lights, didn't have much trouble accessing the plants, it's a pain in the back crawling around and ducking under the lights. But if you're young no problem.

My current area is looking like a 12x8, with 6 600W vented HPS hoods.

1 ft around the walls. use a watering can with an extension type spout or wand.

deffinitely.

Mr. Howard Marks' comments aren't off base. theres a lot of way to make a successful and well lit grow room. but i'd recommend a single vented HPS 1000 instead of multiple lights in this area.

there only has to be enough room in front of the shelves (one over the other) for you to maneuver in front of them. if they are like 7' by 18" then you'll have enough room with like a 7' by 3' foot area. it'll be tight... but that is how you would maximize the space. Also you could have a third shelf for clones and such. Just think of the clone/vedge area as a long small closet. generally i think 1/3 clone/vedge space to 2/3 vedge/flower space is a good mark to shoot for. but with shelving you are maximizing your space better... so the floor space can be less than 1/3 of the total floor area.

Hey,

Folding Sliding or Bifold doors can be good option for you. Bifold doors can be useful to separate rooms as well as good option for saving lots of space into the room.
