Leaf Septoria? Deficiency? Need help identifying (pics)

Hello! So here is what is going on. Each plant is now 4 weeks old(still in veg, well for another week), all of them have been topped except one. All look healthy but one or two. ALL of them have extremely healthy white roots. Temps range usually around 68(night time) to a high of 77/79(day time). But usually lingers around 73 or 75 during lights on. Humidity is usually around 55-60%. Try to ignore the temp gage in the pics of the highs and lows. That is only when within a few hours time. I place damp towels and a humidifier in my grow tents in order to keep the humidity levels up, it goes into the 70s when I put a fresh damp towel in there for about 30 minutes then goes back and stays around 60 for the rest of the day. In the beginning it was extremely dry(16-20% humidity). I use flora trio as my nutrients. I provide about 1 tsp per gallon in each reservoir as of right now. I can post a pic of my nute schedule if needed. PH is 5.7/5.8. I use RO water with calmag. Air flow is pretty good to where all the plants are twitching(stems are thick as hell). air cooled hood, one big fan blowing up above, small fan blowing across/under the light, and two really small fans blowing below the plants. By the way, this is dwc if you haven't already noticed.

Just trying to give as much info on my grow, don't know what the problem is with the back left hand corner plant, its struggling big time. All the others are fine, the one to the right of it has a few yellow spots as well on one leaf, but that is about it. Please take a look at the pictures down below, let me know what you think the problem is. I looked up leaf septoria, looks similar to what I have, but I don't get how I got it cause everything that I have read that causes it I don't have. My temps stay in perfect range, humidity is relatively good, and I have really good air flow. HELP! Its extremely frustrating.

I can also provide pics on how it originally started off(yes I have had problems with this plant straight from the get go. Just seems to be getting worse. I might chop it down to give the healthy plants more energy throughout the grow. Thanks!

It actually looks like mag deficiency the more I look at it, but I am just confused due to that fact that my PH levels have been spot on. Should I use more calmag? any help is much appreciated.

Second picture deffo looks like a cal/Mag issue. Leaning towards calcium tho due to the rusted mottling appearing.

As you’re probably aware calmag is often needed when supplementing RO water.

As to why it’s only affecting one plant? Genetics. Simple. Unless they are clones then that’s the issue. Some plants are less strong than others, just like any living thing on this planet!!

What’s your dose of calmag? Full strength?

@Nutty sKunK Thanks for the reply and help! But ya, all of them are from seed(different strains). For the first 3 weeks I used full strength calmag. For this week I used half strength of calmag(which I guess I just screwed up if its a cal/mag deficiency). I changed the reservoirs last night, do you think it would be fine if I added some calmag when topping off the reservoirs with RO water(usually top off the water around the second day), or should I add more calmag as soon as possible.

Well since it’s a different strain they require different amounts.

Did the issue come up after you gave them a half dose?

I see in the notes on your feeding schedule to add calmag if in coco or using RO.

Whether that means additional calmag to what it states is beyond me. I would’ve assumed so due to it being a complete feeding that’s suited for varying types of water.

Regarding your res I’ve never grown in hydro soi don’t know the ins and outs.

But I can’t see the issue in adding it in now if it’s lacking it.. maybe someone can chime in as to whether adding calmag is a no no in between res change. Logic says it would be fine:.

The issue came up when I was giving them full dose of calmag. So maybe provide them with a little more? Don't know. But I plan on trying just to see what happens. Will keep this thread updated on whether or not it recovers.

Just a quick update! Everything was fixed, just upped the dosage of calmag and problem went away

But I am running into another problem currently... I am running out of room in my grow tent(not height wise). Uploading pics for everyone to see.

So far they are pretty healthy, roots are still white as can be, perfect environment conditions(temps 68-77, humidity 40s). My res water temp stays around 68-69 degrees F. They are around 12-14 days into flower I think, calender is at home haha. Plants are already smelling wonderful, literally brings a smile to my face

Anyways, to the point! I am running out of room and they are growing like no other. I have a LITTLE bit of room in my 4x4 tent and am thinking about putting one of these babies in there. The only thing is, the 5x5 has a 1000 watter while the 4x4 has a 600 watter. Will the different output of light hurt or maybe even shock the plant somehow? Or should I just leave it as is and just start trimming up the fan leaves to make a little more room? Also, when should I start trimming fan leaves, I have read around that you should start trimming after its been 2 weeks into flower. I want to create room for my plants, but I also don't want to beat the shit of them to the point that they drop over and die. Thanks everybody! Happy growing

To answer your questions in order:

1. Moving a plant from under a 1000w to a 600w will not hurt or shock the plant in anyway. It will grow more slowly, but it will be a negligible amount at first.
2. Whether or not you move a plant or two into the other tent, you should definitely start trimming up older fan leaves as well as removing some growth below the canopy. Air flow is important! The more the better!
3. You can start removing the older, bottom fan leaves now. Especially ones that are restricting airflow. As far as removing fan leaves during flower, a lot of people will tell you that it's strain dependent (I've only grown like 12 strains so idk if I have the experience to say all plants love it). But usually you remove fan leaves on day 21 of flower and again about 3 weeks before harvest. This is a sort of controversial step. Some here will tell you its unnecessary, some do it religiously, and some think your a fool to do so. Personally, I bend the fan leaves straight down into the plant (as long as it doesn't block airflow) that way the nutrients in the leaves are still available and the leaves themselves wont shade out any bud sites.

ahhh alright! Thanks so much for the advice @Organic Altruism ! That was exactly what I was looking for. I have 2 small fans sitting on the floor, a small one blowing just above the plants, and one big one blowing high up above. So hopefully that is enough, I might raise one of the small ones down near the ground up a bit to improve air flow down below. Any recommendations where to put the bottom fans? I should increase my air flow due to the fact that my leafs are sitting on top of each other which I heard could cause white powdery mildew. I have had a few incidents where there was a little bit of wetness on some leafs that were sitting on top of each other, but quickly wiped it off. I am hoping increased of air flow will help go against this problem.

When you say bend your fan leaves, how far do you bend them and how do you keep them in place? Do you just tie them down basically?

@yourlook I suggest placing your bottom fans at a height where they wont be constantly drying out your top soil. Having a fan above and below the canopy is definitely the way to go. As far as bending the leaves, I simply tuck them straight down into the canopy, under the other stems. you can also give them a slight bend to encourage them from bouncing back up. no need to tie them down. Lastly, if your worried fan leaves sitting on top of each other, strip a few off. If your still in veg they will grow more.

Good stuff! Glad it fixed those issues!

There are a few tips I’m aware of for controlling height.

1. Warmer nights than days during stretch.

2. Bending the highest point of the branch will force the hormone auxin, which tells the branch to grow, to another lower point. Alternating this spreads out the auxin hormone and controls height.

3. Have your lights as close as possible without any negative affects.


Warmer nights really do help though

I don’t trim any leaves personally as if the plant didn’t need them it wouldn’t make them. Unless it clears an obvious budsite of shade I won’t bother.

@Nutty sKunK Thanks! When the lights go off ill try to keep the temps at around 70/72 rather than 68 if I can.

I feel like I am asking a bunch of questions, but hopefully this is the last one. I was topping off my reservoirs today and noticed that one of the roots is getting extremely thick to the point where it looks like the netpot is cutting into it. uploading a picture of it now, I am thinking about cutting a piece of the netpot for more root room. Is this a good idea or should I just leave it as is?
