I just asked a very similar question. @Stephenj37826 suggested starting at 24". I have seen many people say 18"-24". I have the 260 watt qb288 kit. Are you talking the HLG Quantum Boards? Not sure what general consesnsus is but i see 12-24 inches used a lot. is that from the actual diodes to TOP of plant or to the bud sites (considering they will keep growing biggeR). do growers actually move the qb farther up as buds or plants grow?
SCROG here
yes, i wanted to do hlg550 boards or at least DIY piece by piece because that 1000$ cost is prohibitiveI just asked a very similar question. @Stephenj37826 suggested starting at 24". I have seen many people say 18"-24". I have the 260 watt qb288 kit. Are you talking the HLG Quantum Boards?
I am not sure to be honest. I am on my first grow and they are still seedlings LOL. I will be following to see if someone more knowledgeable will know. There isn't a ton of info out there about these Quantum Boards so I still have a lot to learn.keegan did you figure out if the distance means from LED to top of plant or LED to bud site? could make a difference thats important, and would change throughout flowering!
awesome! good luck!I am not sure to be honest. I am on my first grow and they are still seedlings LOL. I will be following to see if someone more knowledgeable will know. There isn't a ton of info out there about these Quantum Boards so I still have a lot to learn.
this must be it! thanks!kdt15 i think you don't get access to a like button immediately, you have to graduate to full member by... earning a few likes first? Making several posts? It wont be long
You think at seedling stage I can put it at 18 inches, right now I'm at 24 inchesThis is good info to know. I just got a 320 watt hlg 324 xl about a month ago and didn't know how far to put it. I had it too close and plants were suffering. Thanks to this thread I put it about 18 inches away and already after a day they are looking happier. I'm not a noob, except to QB's.
Well, like I said, I'm new to QB's but I started mine at about 18 inches at almost the lowest power. But when they got bigger I increased the power to close to full and lowered the light to about 10 inches and that's when they started getting the turned down leaves and kinda a greasy look, so that was too close. You think at seedling stage I can put it at 18 inches, right now I'm at 24 inches
The top of the plant should be a bud... So not sure what the question isyes, i wanted to do hlg550 boards or at least DIY piece by piece because that 1000$ cost is prohibitive

That greasy turned down look is probably nitrogen toxicityWell, like I said, I'm new to QB's but I started mine at about 18 inches at almost the lowest power. I don't want to give you advice on this because of my newness to QBs. So I only gave you my circumstance. Just watch 'em and err on the side of less intensity until you either know the light better, or somebody with more experience than me comes along, lol.
We all learn together!!
Best of luck!!
That makes sense, since I'm feeding them like the ones under my 1k hps. Also they are autos which I've never grown before, only photos in my past. That greasy turned down look is probably nitrogen toxicity
