Altered Carbon
is a 2002 hardboiled cyberpunk science fiction novel by Richard K. Morgan. Set in a future in which interstellar travel is effected by transferring consciousnesses between bodies ("sleeves"), it follows the attempt of Takeshi Kovacs, a former U.N. elite soldier turned private investigator, to investigate a rich man's death for him. The book was adapted as a Netflix television series, also titled Altered Carbon, in 2018

IMDB: Set in a future where consciousness is digitized and stored, a prisoner returns to life in a new body and must solve a mind-bending murder to win his freedom.

ALTERED CARBON
is set in a future where consciousness is digitized and stored in cortical stacks implanted in the spine, allowing humans to survive physical death by having their memories and consciousness "re-sleeved" into new bodies. The story follows specially trained "Envoy" soldier Takeshi Kovacs, who is downloaded from an off-world prison and into the body of a disgraced cop at the behest of Laurens Bancroft, a highly influential aristocrat. Bancroft was killed, and the last automatic backup of his stack was made hours before his death, leaving him with no memory of who killed him and why. While police ruled it a suicide, Bancroft is convinced he was murdered and wants Kovacs to find out the truth.

Just finished the series... More dicks than I'd like to see in a Netflix series but.. Great series none the less.

Spoiler alert. Everyone dies.

You got some good taste there! I'm in the middle of bingeing it right now. Thanks!

I've got two episodes left to watch. I've read it's been picked up for a new season, but no one knows what it will entail. It's based on a trilogy of books, that span hundreds of years with lots of different characters. The lead actor (Kovacs character) opted out, but hell they'll use another sleeve ;)

I got the finale to watch yet. That's a little of a bummer as I like the main actor. He was good in "The Killing". That's a good show too.

Didn't want to read most of this thread in fear of spoilers. I just downloaded and watched the first episode last night, looking forward to this one. The protagonist was awesome in The Killing, but he must have taken 'roids and lived in the gym for the last few years: he was a skinny meth head on the killing, now he's buff and shredded as hell. It's impressive when someone pulls a Chris Pratt like that...
