Light deprevation Gothic hoophouse Greenhouse questions.

I am looking to do something like this type. 6 ft sidewalls and 14.5 foot at the center.

I am looking at 30 feet wide by 96 feet long. I am wondering:

1. What is the ideal size in cloth pots?
2. How many plants per this size of green house?
3. Ball park yield per plant and this will be with light deprivation at night.
4. What do you spray for bugs and PM when inspected by THE MAN.

To be completely honest it sounds like you don't have much personal background with this. Your questions leave some info out make it hard or impossible to answer all of your questions.

Most people start small and gain experience as they work up to bigger projects. I understand that you're reaching out and everyone has to start somewhere. If you're wanting to jump right in you're doing the right thing by trying to get as much info as you can but you'll definitely want to either hire a consultant who can remain available or even someone to run things at least until you're well versed enough your self.

How many greenhouses? Are you set on using pots? Will you have the ability to run equipment for lighting, heating, dehumidification for seasonal extension? Do you want to just run them through the typical season or year round?

Thanks for responding. I know indoor better. I am not an expert but pretty good at decent size indoor. The goal would be to have indoor going and one greenhouse to start. All Colo licensed. I know cloth pots with tupur coco but have used plastic pots with soil.

I would be using light deprivation with decent quality gothic shaped green houses but know super expensive fixed green houses with a concrete slab. I think 4 runs a year might be tough though 3 may be doable. There would be fans and warmers for night time and colder periods. The area in Co is milder with good sunlight.

I think doing a 4th winter run would require supplemental lighting. The number of lights needed for 30 x 96 would take a lot of lights and probably mostly QB boards. Possibly a minimum of 18 QB boards that are 4 panel to match one 1000 watrt HPS.

That almost seems like an arbitrary number. For a first start I'd rather go with three greenhouses that are only about 30' so I could maintain a 30 day cycle. Your overall yield for the season would be much higher and you'd be able to spread out the work load. Since you're allowed so many plants you should think of yield in terms of area and time instead of individual plants.

gothic style greenhouses are harder to cover with most external light dep covers than a hoop style. Light dep arms need to be longer to cover a gothic roof. Most gothic greenhouses have internal dep systems. They work very well but they are pricy. Most external light dep systems work better on round roofs. Year the mechanics for a hoophouse arm to cover is pretty easy. The internal is nice but like you said, not cheap.

Is 3 or 4 runs a year realistic? I assume in a winter run you would need supplemental lighting. I saw a video with a guy who had Gavitas in the middle spaced about every 8 feet. Looked like 24' wide.

I liked this but it does not look cheap. The video starts with Strauss Blue Danube but at .40 seconds some nice old school techno like I used to do starts.

With 60 day strains and two flowering houses and one veg you could harvest every 30 days with anywhere from a 30-60 day veg.

I don't know what your normal season would be but you'd need supplemental light just to extend the season a bit even if you're not trying to grow year round.

Good tips! Thank you! It is a good area as there is some major solar stuff in the area but in winter runs, you will have to have some supplemental I am pretty sure.

Even to be able to plant early enough to be able to really take advantage of the full season I'd want to light one or two greenhouses for the first month or two.

If your not worried about plant count, I would run sea-o-green with 100's of small plants and keep the veg time short (2-3 weeks). Just turn and burn...

Your gonna need some lighting to keep things on a good schedule. But remember it's only for a couple weeks & it doesn't have to be a lot of light. A couple of hrs in the middle of the night will keep everything in veg until you are ready to flip. I would give the plants at least 2 weeks after planting just to get a root system established and then you an flip when they are the size you want....best of luck

I like the sea of green plan here...build a box 2 feet wide and 12" tall,fill with truck loads of soil and get going.

I have built hoop houses inside of greenhouses like this just for the dep covers, then you don't have to tarp the entire greenhouse, very doable.
