I have been thinking the same

Im going to see what i can get with my one light

Then instead of adding more hps i though about just supplemental lighting from leds mabey 1 300-400w on each side of the hps
Yeah I doubt you'll need the HPS with full spectrum cobs.i was thinking the same thing when I ran cmh but the CMH by themselves outdid my HPS.The cobs are better than both IMO.HPS is old technology.its good for commercial growers that can run large open setups and lots of AC but for smaller scale grows LED all day.

During cold months the heat from HPS is welcome. I even run a space heater during dark hours.
My dehumidifier also runs a lot & produces some heat. It pulls 4 amps by itself!

So now that I'm in a thread where I won't be accused of complaining, has anyone else noticed that plants tend to vary a lot? I've grown mostly clones in the past but was under the impression that "stable" strains don't have a lot of variation. I popped a pack of Chinook Haze and those fuckers are all over the map. Different size, structure, and smell. Hell I've got one that's a beast and towers over the others! With my luck, it's a male...

Yeah I have seen it.i think is the result of f1 crosses.gu isn' breeding IBL strains or like a specialized strain of 2 parents with the same lineage.
This is the reason we can find so much fire in his packs cause he is using his stardawg male to X to other elite females.those f1 seeds are straight as fuck.even though not alot of similarities it makes phenos hunting awesome.especially if your looking for a pheno that leans towards a specific strain you are looking for.

My end goal is to be a breeder when my state goes wide open.i have alot of experience in it and can reverse any female I want.not just chucking pollen but actually testing the offspring of the parents.thats the key really is hand selecting parents and being able to test those f1s.

Good luck.
I'm in legal recreational state, but growing is still restricted.
To grow legally here in WA you've gotta have a medical authorization or a state "producer" license.
I've got a medical permit but I'm only allowed to grow 15 plants.
That's why I'm not entering any of the contests -- I'm maxed out on plant count... :-(

Anytime you need a tester let me know :)
That' really how any good breeder should start out.sending out ass loads of testers to see what female crosses are putting out fire.
just having a couple strains to X don't mean shit.ill deal with all fems,no sexing and not having to worry about someone jacking a good male from the genetics.
I guarantee any seeds I make will produce.i don't keep anything unless it's straight dank.
I prob keep 1 female out of 100 I run.

I feel like a true breeder should have the ability to sift through 1000s and test their own seeds or close friends whose garden u have access to, tbh that's the only way they are really gonna know how good/consistent the seeds will be.
Of course that's not feasible for most especially running thru 1000s, sending out 'testers' is better than no one 'testing' them at least... not many people are really what I think are 'breeders' though, just pollen chuckers that make f1 crosses mostly, that's fine as there's good chuckers with fire genetics but just not at the stage breeding will be at, using lab testing, working lines a lot more, sifting through many, many plants. f1s are great and keep more diversity so no issue with that, just too much hype pollen chucking and releasing/selling every seed made rather than using them for a another project refining the line for better yield/structure or even resin quality...

That's exactly what i was saying.i don' think you need 1000 mom's to select a good parent.you can get 1 good female out of 100 to select a parent but you will need the space to test the offspring or a bunch of good testers.
If those f1s are junk than you lose alot of time and effort throwing away plants to start over.
I think once you find a solid line that produces fire strains you can x it to any female and get quality shit.
Not many people I know would waste the space or time testing someone's gear unless they had the reputation to back it up.

I think it was Mendel who said that the most important thing about breeding was having thousand of plants to select from.
