Nice theory, but that revenue does nothing for BC. We, too pay equalization payments, so we gain nothing from the oil. I don't care if Alberta gives more to have not provinces so long as they don't create another one in the process. I live on a small but beautiful island who relies heavily on tourism to support local business. When one of these oil tankers goes down and our beaches and wildlife are covered in oil, the tourists might just go somewhere else. Thousands of BC'ers would be left unemployed while Alberta carried on pumping oil.Revenue Alberta (Saskatchewan, Manitoba and yes BC too) earn from shipping cannadian oil to China, will be dispersed to all of the provinces. Alberta pays equalization payments to the federal government and that money gets dispersed to all kinds of funding in other provinces. If the people in charge of the ports in BC run them responsibly they won't destroy the coast.
Then you seem to put the potential blame on BC port operators in the event of an accident rather than blaming the greed of the oil companies and the governments they pay off. I'm all for shipping oil if and when it can be done safely, what pisses me off is the attitude that the wants of British Columbian's are secondary to those of Alberta. Why do we not have the right to determine the risks we are willing to take as a province? There would be no way they would force Quebec to do anything 'for the country' and they have never contributed a dime to transfer payments. If my elected provincial representative is unable to make decisions to protect the province and it's citizens, why do they exist?
It won't matter anyway. After all is said and done, the FN will stop the pipeline from crossing their lands. I doubt it will be built in my lifetime.
