Gavita spread question

The guys at the gavita site told me that I should be putting 3 rows of 6 1000w lights in my 20x20 room. Is this correct? That sounds like a lot. I was under the impression that in a 20x20 I would need only 4 single ended 1000s in a row.. so why would I need 6 double ended in a row?

I would go with 4 rows of 5
With sliding tables for walk ways (if you really wanted to max the space out)
So 18-20 lights n your bangin.
One is good for 48x48” inches, 36” above the tops . (Use this 4x4 per light n figure out how you want everything; there’s your #)
You can always use less , but there no replacement for displacement.

For 1000w HID lights you’ll find the most quoted space is anywhere between 4x4 and 5x5 per light. A large part of the footprint is determined by the reflector so keep that in mind. As far as 3 rows of 6 is concerned that’s probably the most useful configuration for lighting while leaving you room to work around the plants unless you went with rolling tables/something mobile.

Should the double ended lights be hung up side by side down each row? Or should it be lined up the length of the bulb? | | | | vs - - - -

I would base that on the reflector footprint. Looks to me like you would want to line up the bulbs in the rows for the most accurate coverage.

If you look at the pdf Jonsnow attached you’ll see that the recommended footprint is roughly 3.5’x6’ footprint. Meaning that 3 rows of six would give you adequate coverage for a 21’x18’ room. Which is why they gave you the recommendation they did. With the cutoff of the reflector you would want to line up the bulbs for that coverage.

But...

Im using 1 gavita 750 and im making the light stretch over a 7.5x7.5

Call me crazy. But im just getting ready to flip
And i havent seen a need to turn it up past 600w

Im going to see what i can get with just the one light for this first run so i know what it can do.

I designed my room with high ceilings so i could run 4 of them in there.lol

But when i turned one on i was amazed when it lit my whole damn room up :)

So im going to see what she can do

I’m with you I have 8 de’s each 4 covering a 12x12 roughly and they are stupid bright just finished my first run and plants where large with little waste, I feel they cover 6x6 easy.

Same here, I got a nanolux ballast with a 750 bulb covering about a 7x7.

That gavitas are stupid powerful for the watts they pull

And i thought i was going to run 4 in an 8x8 lmao

I might be able to handle 2 mabey but i would probably have to add a ac lol

at this time of year I have to add heat, in the summer I won't be able to run them.

I hear ya buddy

I run the gavita for the heat too.

But i know it will run hot in the summer especially if i tried to run 2.


So know im planning on keeping the gavita for for the winter runs
And as long as it produces enough i wont add another cause i hate the thought of paying for ac in a cold climate


So im building a led strip array that i can use with the gavita basically ill run the gavita and a few strips in the winter.

Then ill switch to full led in the summer

Just sucks the full array i want to build will be around 1600

And the first half im going to build is up to 800 :wall:
