Hello world,
Let me first begin by stating I'm quite a beginner at this myself but I've read for about solid month before I jumped in. With that said this is information I found extremely helpful since not everything is always clear in the beginning when you have so MANY questions....
Anyone feel free to add or take information to help you on your journey!
First I'd like to begin with mediums. If you aren't aware what a medium is it's soil, hydroton, rockwool, Hydro, etc. Usually beginner's use soil so lets start with that one. Soil must contain a good percentage of perlite (to help drainage & oxygen through out the soil), nutes in small amounts that the plant needs early in life such as (N) which you can get from bat gauno. There are a few other ingredients needed in small amounts to help early growth but as a beginner your looking for the quick route (am I right?). Fox Farms Ocean soil and by far the **BEST** soil out there to use from seed to flower. It comes with everything you need (I add more perlite but thats just personal preference.
Next we will talk about germinating. Germinating is basically waking up the seed from its dormant life to grow beautiful flowers! I've used the same method and it's worked 100% everytime! Do this all in very low light room as the seeds don't like bright light. Take a napkin pour pH'd water all over it then squeeze the remaining water out so its now just damp. Place your seeds on the paper towel all spread out & place inside a zip lock bag. When you closing the bag leave one side open allowing you to blow air inside. I like to blow smoke inside the bag too as a good luck symbol Leave in a dark area with temps near 76 to 85 degrees & in 2 days some of those babies should start sprouting. When the taproot is showing your going to want to plant the side down in the soil.
We will now begin talking about watering. One of the biggest mistakes by beginners is OVERWATERING!!! After the seeds are planted you want to give a small amount of water (17mL) to help the seed get used to its new surroundings. Wait a day or two for the next watering & you should water about double the 1st watering. Now as far as schedules go I water at least 3 times a week but never more than 5. The number of times you water will depend on how hot & how high the humididty is in your grow. Always give pH'd water and this can be easily done by feeding Distilled water which isn't the same as purified, mineral, or spring water!! That simple you have to remember less is more in the plant world
Medium, Germinating, Watering, Nutes. Everyone wonders what, how much, and when should their babies be given nutes. Now think about a keyword in that statement (BABIES). In soil NO I repeat NO nutes should be given until the last week of veg & it should be a diluted dose. As far a nutes go there are so many out there to choose from I'm not going to sit here and say which is the best b/c all of them in a way have there own advantages. To narrow it down your plant needs co2 (which I will explain next), Carbohydrates, a root stimulator, Superthrive, and a nute for flower such as Big Bud. Thats it!! Everyone sees all these advertisements and try to buy them all b/c they want great yields & its just not neccessary. As far as the amount just follow directions on the back. It's also super easy to dilute the amounts in percentages based on the directions being given are 100%.
Co2 is needed for photosynthesis which is the plant's way of making energy. Greater amounts of co2 is needed during flowering then veg to help the buds form. Ways of supplementing co2 are as follows...(the most EASIEST way is) co2boost.com, it's a little on the pricey side but well worth it for the plants sake. Another option that I believe would work rather good is going to the camping section of your local walmart and buy a latern. Burn it for 30 min on 1.5 hours off during veg & 1hr on 1hr off during flowering. Lastly homemade co2 devices have NEVER worked for me so I won't talk about them since I feel its a waste of time.
Light schedule is simple, there are 24 hours in a day so however many hrs you want your lights on (18-22 hours during veg) the other hours keep it dark. When you start giving your plants only 12hrs of light which is followed by 12 hrs of dark they start flowering stage. THEY GET BIG during the second week of flowering because everytime you turn the lights on from dark they go crazy thinking there isn't going to be anymore light & grow towards it! The 12 hours of dark must be DARK!
I'll finish with lighting. I'll make this as simple as possible to understand...the more lighting available the more LUMENS are the result. The more LUMENS (a measurement of lighting) the better your plants will love their private summer vacation inside your room. The easiest lighting beginners have access to are CFL light bulbs which don't require a ballast just screw right in to the socket. CFL's are good for alot of reasons; 1 there not expensive, 2 They can be relatively close to your plants leaves without burning them, 3 The closer the lighting is to your plants the less chance they have of S T R E T C H I N G for that warm light, and last 4 Very cost efficient (23 watts used is equal to 100 watts output). These bulbs work GREAT for veg on any light schedule you prefer. Now flowering is a different story the ladies at this point need a better lighting source to help produce those thick dense buds. HTgsupply.com sell 150,400,600 watt high pressure sodium light bulbs that come with the ballast. There services are great, quick, and extra reliable. To make it simple you need a different light source for flowering if you want nice buds.
This is information that I found useful, I'm not going to sit here and say its the best way to grow bud but it has worked for me.
Any questions feel free I'll honest to the best of my ability.
