Basic First-timer DIY Strip Build

Good afternoon everybody,

Quite new to the LED scene; originally I had focused on CFLs back in the day and recently thought I would get into LEDs, foolishly purchasing one of those UFO models on Amazon.

Long story short(ish) I have put together a build and started ordered minor parts for the project. I am going to be using 12x of these Samsung SI-B8V05128HUS 1 foot strips (as a Canadian there are not many other 1 foot options at the moment with the specs I am looking for). This will be mounted onto a suitably sized heatsink for my 2x2x4 tent.

Aside from the driver and strips, all the basic parts and a potentiometer have been ordered. With that being said, I am having some difficulty determining the best Meanwell driver to use for this project and I would be open to some suggestions. As well, any other suggestions regarding this build would be greatly appreciated; as I said this will be my first DIY attempt.

Thank you guys for the replies/suggestions so far! I was also looking at the HLG-150H-24, will be making a decision so that this build can be put together within the next few weeks :bigjoint:

As a A version driver user I would get a B version, but that is 14usd more. Im broke as f
What are your reservations with the A version? Less control?

Hey there; thanks for the reply!

I am actually using a 2x2x4 and I wouldn't feel too comfortable cramming the 22" variations inside. As for those newer/better strips, they aren't actually available here up north and this would just be used as an interim light before some of these newer strips are re-stocked later this year (hopefully).

For a 2x2 the 22" strips are a better fit... Covers the entire canopy.

I built a 27" x 14" light for a 2x2 tent and it worked great! I say go with 22" like the rest have suggested!

Just figured I would throw out a quite update ; the light was a success and the 2 foot strips were no issue at all. Very appreciated for all the replies my friends; my MaxiGom is currently loving the upgrade from that shitty UFO device

Why not build small fixture and buy four of the quantum board 132's on it......Run them at 40 watts or so each and get ready for frost !
