*HELP* PH up & down may kill plants

Hey guys,

Today I measured the PH of tap water with both the reader & strips..
The reading was about 6.66ph and only took 11 drops of PH up per gallon to get it roughly to 7.0.

In a separate water bottle (ph 6.66) i added all of my nutrients which dropped it down to 5.56.
Now for this to go to 7.0ph i had to add 50 drops (approx 3ml) of PH up to a gallon to get back to 7.0

As im new to using these products is 3ml way to much PH up to use as i don't want to feed them and potentially kill the girls unintentionally

If your in soil don’t even worry with ph’ing the water. Given it’s good soil. I only ph my hydro grows

Hey, I've been using coir and have been advised about PH fluctuations due to twisting leafs.. Never really had this problem in soil but having to amend this in coir now so first time dealing with PH up/downs

I’ll be honest I don’t jack with coco, I do rdwc, and super soil. I’ll let some of the resident coco experts give you that info.

If i was in the right country and had some land to myself i would go KNF living soil method but where i am we have to deal with the resources and environments we have and without good knowledge and space for trial and error its something i patiently await to do :bigjoint: for now though i need to find out about this damn PH up/down business lol:wall: Thanks for the love though, hopefully someone adds there 2 cents to this one

Common hydro range is 5.8 to 6.5 if that helps. It not going to hurts your plants if you have to use 50 or 60 drops simply means you have a bunch of buffers in your water.

Mix your nutrients with the water first and then adjust the ph using however much up or down you need.

Yeah thats exactly what i did and the PH after had dropped so had to add PH up... Would 3ml per gallon (or 50 pipet drops per gallon) be too much solution for the plants to feed or is it a case of as long as the PH is fine the plants will be too, just never used these chemicals before and they come with caution so im cautious to go ahead with using it and potentially killing them all off with one feed :(

most nutes will adjust your ph by themselves when added in the correct amount. i haven't needed to ph anything in coco for years. anything around 6 is fine, a bit of swing back and forth is good

Im currently using foxfarms trio.. My water ph is about 6.6 and it drops to around 5 after adding everything.. Thats why im having to go up a whole 1.5 in PH to get it to the desired 6.5/7 mark

And also this is the same for me, dont usually have to amend these things but since the twisting leafs and a couple other problems this is something that has been put down to PH fluctuations.

Is 3ml per gallon to much ph up

I ph to 6 in coco 5.6-6 is great for me,so I’d say use less up and get to 6 or little lower:)
Thanks for the advice, by the sounds of things in this thread alot of people agree with lowering the PH between 5.5 and 6.5 as appose to 7.0
Next feed ill lower my ph to around 6 and see how things get on. For now though do you think its okay to feed the plants with the PH i described in the thread? As i had to put 3ml of PH up into a gallon, would 3ml be enough to kill off my plants in any way?

Apologises if this sounds stupid but its all new to me and i only ever hear of people adding 10-20 drops not 50 lol

hmmm yeah 6.6 is a low starting point, 5.5 might be ok to use though for coco, also if you use a big rez the ph should rise overnight, adding lots of ph is usually a bad idea

Okay sure thing, just checked the feed as it was still in the bottle and lastnight it was 7.02 and now its gone down to 6.81. My next feed will be between 5.5/6.0 but will i be okay to feed them the mix i have already done (6.81ph) or is it best for me to discard of that feed and try again but only bringing it up to 6.0?

Start fresh and bring up to 5.8 (least ph up as possible) and it should rise after sitting then adjust back to 5.8 24hrs later. Coco is best 5.5-6.5, most people do 5.8-6.2 and swing between those values.
