CITY TAP WATER?

Just got my blue Lab meter in yesterday and tested my water PH and PPM. I'm currious if I need to use RO for my current culture setup if my PPM is reading 120 (500 scale) at a PH - 7.

yeah I did. It was pretty easy to calibrate. I need to buy their kit to clean and calibrate it every month however. I was thinking just letting the water sit with an air stone in it for 24 hours might be enough. Just add nutrients and then PH down...

Mine's about 105ppm (with a pH of 8.9), been using it for years w/ no prob. Did you calibrate your pH meter?
-good luck
Agreed 100%.
I did have a waterfarm though, and that was a nightmare if i didnt change my res every 2-3 days.
I wouldnt worry about calmag either. Itll only make your water harder.

does your water have chloramine or chlorine in it?

chlorine you can bubble off but chloramine you can't.
either one will kill beneficial bacteria if you are planning on using them

I use tap water (current avg. 120ppm / 7.4 pH) with great results. As rkymtnman says, you have to be aware of whats in the water if you run bennies. I run sterile so its never an issue.

My tap will be different depending on the month and which reservoir is feeding my home (they say it could be mixed if required due to demand). I get 210ppm in Winter usually with PH 8-8.6. Works fine but I like to mix it with RO to bring the EC down a bit.

I have hard water 230ppm mainly calcium. I've used GH hardwater nutes and don't have as much fluctuation in pH. The regular base nutes I have to monitor a few days after mixing then it will level out after pH adjustment.
