OTTAWA -- The federal government says the Canadian public broadly supports the tight regulations it has so far proposed for marijuana packaging, which will include a bright red stop sign containing a pot leaf and the letters THC.

Health Canada is unveiling the results of a 60-day consultation around its proposed regulations, in which it emphasizes a focus on reducing the appeal of marijuana to youth and preventing accidental consumption.

Logos would have to be a single colour, with no metallic or fluorescent finishes, and packages would have to be opaque and child-resistant, with a bright yellow health warning similar to those used on tobacco products.

Cannabis legislation is currently before Parliament and none of the regulations are final until approved by legislators.

The consultation received more than 3,200 online submissions and 450 written responses, as well as input from health and law enforcement experts, governments, patient advocates and industry representatives.

Health Canada is also proposing two new categories of small-scale producers -- micro-cultivators and micro-processors -- that would apply lower-level security requirements for businesses that grow or process smaller amounts of product.

Here are some examples of what eventual legalized marijuana packaging could look like. More info: https://www.canada.ca/en/health-canada/services/publications/drugs-health-products/summary-comments-public-consultation-regulation-cannabis.html#6.3…

when will they force the label changes onto alcohol brands...
Some of those labels are pretty nice and drawn very well....could also make a person sorta sentimental towards certain brands....etc...
SO no branding on the label and huge warnings that take up 65 percent of the packages label area...
and maybe a picture of a still brewing whiskey dropped onto a stop sign shape...
everything in either red or yellow warning colors, and two lines of text for the mfg company in green of course....

fair is fair right??????????????????

Health Canada also proposed two new categories of small-scale producers — micro-cultivators and micro-processors — where lower-level security requirements would apply to businesses that grow or process smaller amounts of marijuana.

Micro-cultivators would be allowed to grow marijuana with a plant canopy of 200 square metres, which Health Canada described as equivalent to half the space between the blue lines on a standard Canadian hockey rink.
interesting

love the size comparison lol ..how canadian

Hmm...Black market is not going anywhere with that packaging! Not only can you not smell or touch the product you also can't even see it! A winning combo for sure!
Unless they weigh it out and package it right there in the stores. Is that a possibility? Cause yeah prepackaged will suck for sure.

But then that would require new labels/bags for each batch. The gov is so gong ho on testing weed that its looking like they wouldn't allowe packaging at store because the retailers could put the wrong product into the wrong bag? This could be a big failure in the system they just introduced.

I'm sure some LP is reading this forum and will be lobbying hard to restrict the packaging the way they have announced it.

Yeah that makes sense. Damn, that sucks. They should at least make the bags see through. Retards!

I'm not going to look this gift horse in the mouth but as someone who would like to set up a store front that would suck paying $10 per gram for Canna Surprise goodies.
No shit.

Plus I wonder how much that packaging costs and who ends up paying for it?....like I don't already know.

Hopefully they do hire the guy who did the pot store logo in Ontario cause the weed is going to be 200$ a gram, he charges a lot to work that MS Paint app.

Between "surprise" weed and other dumb government factors, the Black Market is set to do better than ever, especially once people can contrast the quality and price. Sure the price might drop for a while, but once it is legal and people realize they are being ripped off and poisoned worse than billy bob in the stairwell ever did, and PLUS they can get cheaper, better, product at less cost, then they are going to not purchase from the Gov. I predict higher initial sales in the weed stores and then lower sales as the months go by. Black market pot cheap up until legalization, but hits the floor once the stores open and starts to creep back up possibly higher than 1999 prices.

It will NOT be sold open form in Ontario anyway. Anywhere a Gov store is used it will be sold pre-packed. No smelling or seeing until you pay up.
All nice n old like as well.
Best thing to do is ask to see when the package dating was. Then laugh at the 2 year old date. And add another 2 years on for storage.
Ask if it's been nuked as well.
Laugh........... walk out store.......call BM buddies
