Live resin extraction questions and tips.

Hey all been doing some research on live resin extraction, I have a few questions and I’m sure I’m not the only one because information on making live resin is scarce. I’ve searched for a few days now finding bits and pieces of information on the subject but I have yet to find a website that lays down the guidelines to making live resin.

Now I know it’s the same basic principle as making bho but instead of using dried cured frozen material you use fresh Frozen material.

So obviously fresh material weighs more than dried. Cannabis loses about 75% of it weight while drying
If I took 1 pound of fresh primo buds and froze them using dry ice and then I took another 1 pound of the same primo buds and I dried and cured the buds then froze them as well. But since they are dried and lose 75% of there weight we’ll say a QP of dried primo buds.

1 pound fresh frozen vs QP dried cured frozen!?!?
Which one would yield more ?

Thanks

If anyone has any questions tips or advice please feel free to comment.

So your saying that fresh frozen could potentially yield more just would need more butane? So if I’m looking at a 20% yield on the dry Qp I’ll be looking at like a mere 7% for the live resin ?

I'm saying there is the same amount of concentrate present on the material, but the fresh stuff has more bulk to go through to yield it. More runs to process the same amount of material.

Give me the fresh frozen please. I am experimenting with live resin right now using a closed column setup with a 90g tube, they say 90g but I can only pack in about 1 1/2 oz dry. So far I got up to 3.8g from 1 120ml can butane.. I believe I'll get a lot more product this way but use more butane too.

any new tips on this subject ? hard to run solvent through "wet frozen" material ?
If you freeze the water inside the plant material, without coating the trichomes on the outside of the plant material, you can wash the trichomes off using a subzero non polar solvent like Butane.

if your targeting thc-a or terps do your fresh frozen straight from flower no other refining is necessary and could damage terp profile. you will receive less volume on your extraction as lipids & waxes will still be trapped in your material instead of being washed into your collection. running fresh material is the best way to seed/catalyze crystallization of thc-a. early harvest of trichomes can also be a key factor in thc-a isolation as oxidation/degradation of trichome can occur while still on the plant. also keep in mind if your doing multiple run to not let your material thaw as moisture pockets can cause ice clogs not allowing your solvent to pass thru material or channel it in a undesirable way.

Ok , you guys have helped a lot! i understand now. HAS to stay frozen and takes more solvent then cured material.... Thank you guys !
