Do you need nutrients to grow?

Hello there... I've been trying to grow for about a year now but it's all turned out small and under developed. I recently started watching videos online and I learned that i should have been using store bought nutrients in order to achieve success. Is this true for small personal growers, and if so what kind would be best? I'm only growing a few plants so I won't need pounds and pounds. Just enuff for personal use.

Thanks in advance for the help, any advise would be awesome.

Yes you need Nutrients. Whether a store bought concoction or natural soil amendment products like blood and bone meal. It can also depend on what you are growing. Some strains need more of this or that than other strains. ( Girl Scout cookies for example need more nutrients than other strains)...

If possible, do some research on the strains that you are trying to grow. GWE and leafly have some information on some strains requirements. That should get you started.

I will be using "Mega Crop" by @GreenleafNutrients this year. They are one of the advertisers here.

MG isn't all that compatible from what I have read. The nutrient ratio (N-P-K) is wrong. A cactus nutrient would work better than MG, again, from what I have heard. Do a search for marijuana nutrient and you might find something else.

There are other commonly available Nutrients that would work better.

MG usually uses slow release nutrient solution which mean you dont control when the nutrients become available so no good..

I heard good things about megacrop id def look into this.. 1 product that fit the whole grow and made specifically for canabis..

There is a ton of other options and brand.. everyone have their own favorite.. but they should all grow great as long as you have good npk value, calcium, magnesium, etc..

Personally I use GH nutrients and im happy so far..

Especially in soil start with low nutrients first (25% recommended dose) and push slowly for more , see how your plant react and adjust if needed.

I will also be using Mega Crop this year for my outdoor grow. Allot of people here have been using it with great success. As what was stated earlier, you can get a sample bag of ferts for a few bucks shipping. Well worth a try since it is designed for marijuana plants.

It works good, but I'm personally dealing with weird ph upswings. In hydro. Never had that issue before. Still trying to tweak on the formula and dosage though.

I'm used to a nutrient line that stays pretty much ph stable from res change to res change.

Fork out and get a good reputable brand of veg and flower feed for your plants. Just do it.
Unless your super broke, in which case a few people have had luck in here pissing on their plants and various other things

Just about any nutrient made for growing will work. To the potential that most folks demand....no.
I started off with Shultz 10-15-10 All Purpose in soil, then used the dropper stuff once I was in hydro for the first year or two with average results. They work and will provide the minimum of what the plants need to survive. For most, there's a big difference between surviving and thriving when it comes to cannabis horticulture though :bigjoint:.
Welcome to RIU!
