Best light for inside tent...

I would start with a digital dimmable 600W hps if I were you. It's a good starting point to learn about your temps and humidity etc. After a few grows, you can figure out if you wanna upgrade, ie cooltube, MH or even LED.

I started the same then a couple of years ago I invested in LED purely because of the lower electricity running costs.

I love hps, for how close it replicates the sun.
I was an outdoor grower until 3 years ago.
Plants seem to love it just as much imho.
I like using vertical space too.
Led's arn't warm enough for me.

I think i heard somewhere that ou have to replace the bulbs after a grow, and that their a pretty penny... whats ur thoughts?
Get this kit for your first run. It's your cheapest way into it. You'll need a 6" inline fan and some ducting.

And this lamp after every run or two

I will say I upgraded to a 1k hps system after a couple runs. I needed more light. not every one agrees and it's possible to cause light stress with the 1k. Also height is always a restriction in a tent so flip early your first couple runs

Fucken sweet.
Honestly, the cmh, are as new to me as this forum.
Thanks for the info man.
Have you tried flower with them?
No worries mate. No mate just use them for veg as they have a better spectrum for veg then when you switch to flow switch to a dual spectrum. They grow better under MH when there younger there a bit gentler than HPS.you can pick a cheap MH bulb for like £20 mate

As matey said above 600 watt is strong for younger seeds so select the lowest wattage and work your way up slowly until there ready for it. Less is more

I get Hortilux super hps 600’s for about $65 delivered from plantlighting hydroponics

Hortilux says for strong growth change at 10 months. I agree. That is when I notice slower growth and smaller buds.

They say if you go cheap to replace sooner.

I leave my tent door open because i don't have a ventilation system. Do u think it would get to hot without venting?

I needed a 6” exhaust fan and no higher than 70 degree intake air exhausting out a stealth vent board through an open window to keep my 4x4 at 75 degrees with a 600. And in a glass enclosed air cooled reflector. Also used 2 6” clip on fans inside blowing in between the canopy and air cooled reflector and helping create a vortex to help lift the heat up and away from the plants and into the carbon filter exhaust.

But I got 15 oz my first run. I have done 24 in that space with the same lamp since.

And all lights are similarly hot at equal wattages.

No mate like 6-12 months like gorilla said but I usually just run them until they break and I have no problem. Hydro shops say you need to change every 6 months but I think they just say that to get more money out of you.

The spectrum and intensity of an hid bulb drop substantially right away after burn in and then steadily through its life.

They will light up for years sometimes but depending on quality they are not going to give best results after 3-10 months.

I see a drop in plant health and production numbers and most importantly quality after about 9 months with Hortilux.

New 315 cmh bulbs need a low frequency square wave ballast and have a new 2 pole base and cord. Not a mogul base. Old hid uses high frequency ballasts.
I have a galaxy LEC ballast and sun system remote reflector with a Phillips 3100k 315.

You would love the ceramic mh. It has the closest spectrum to the sun available and tested as best including uv a and b by the university of Utah.

However. There is great hype here about its power. It does not closely match a 600 hps. It seems like a 450 hps if there was such a thing.

Which is still pretty impressive but has a smaller footprint and penetration than I read here.

I don’t see a drop in plant health or yield regardless of how old my bulbs are to be honest dude. When I buy a set of fresh bulbs my yield doesn’t increase and my plants look the same as they normally do. They don’t usually last longer than 10 months anyway lol

I have never seen a Hortilux fail at all.

But I thought you were saying you were getting a lot more time from them. Your timeline is same as mine.

I use sun master maybe the hortilux are better. My MH last forever. The guy at the hydro shop said MH never needs to changed unless they break. Not sure how true that is as he does talk some shit.

Nice work!

If I may suggest controlling the environment in the room outside the tent to free up all that valuable space?
Thanks bro.
Unfortunately for me i cant heat my room. Ive done it before. It cost me a more than a few hundred extra in power.
Just such a cold climate here. Electricity's $37 a KWhr. I get slugged hard enough, its cheaper to have less plant in my tent.

Good man.

Have never worried about MH because of my short veg. Its almost SOG style. I flip around 4-5 weeks from seed.
Thanks for the info about CMH @cottee. I might just give that a go, for veg. Next run. :peace::peace:

I start all mine with a 23 watt cfl in daylight Hite until they are about a week old. I then transfer directly to a 1k metal halide that's like a couple feet above it. Never had a light stress issue...
